Letter to the Editor~by Bill McManus

I would like to congratulate Larry Cope and his team of professionals at the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority on their stunning accomplishment regarding the great news that SPI will be retooling and reopening the mill in Tuolumne County. Many public officials use the national economy as the whipping boy for the plight of their counties in these tough economic times. The TCEDA has once again proven them wrong. The addition of some 130 local jobs once again proves that a well structured partnership between local government and the private sector can benefit everyone....

Thanks again Valley Springs Boosters for putting on a spectacular fireworks display over New Lake Hogan last Saturday. The breeze was wonderful, the moon and it's reflection put on a beautiful display creeping up over the hills just before the commencement of the display. The music was piped up so the hundred or so small boats, with their red, green, and white lights shining could hear the patriotic music during the show.....

Letter to the Editor on Housing Element ~By Cathy Mason

Murphys, CA...Watching (on pinetree.net) the Calaveras Board of Supervisors in action on June 22 was very revealing. An important part of the General Plan—the Housing Element was discussed. The public brought up some pivotal points on why the plan was flawed and impinged on basic property owners’ rights. Their questions were answered, if at all, with non-answers. Although the Board appeared to listen, their minds apparently had already been made up. It seemed like the public was talking to a stone wall. The two socialists...

"First of all GOD BLESS YOU GAVIN, and your precious wife, and family! I was not familiar with the phrase 'Sempre Fi' so I looked it up and came across this touching article and thought during this very touching week in Calaveras County others might be touched by the priceless dedication and sacrifice these soldiers have to their country, all of us, and fellow soldiers. The Meaning of Semper Fidelis: by Cam Beck....Marine praying in tribute to a fallen comrade with American flag backdrop or my family, Semper Fidelis is more than a fancy slogan. It is truly a way of life. My father retired from the Marine Corps in the 90s, after serving over twenty years and more than one tour of duty in a combat zone. Therefore, my two brothers and I grew up in a culture that .....

"BOARD OKs REVISED VALLEY SPRINGS LAND MAP...After a marathon meeting, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a “tweaked” version of the Valley Springs updated land-use map, which was put together by District 1 Supervisor Gary Tofanelli and a small group of area landowners. Supervisor Merita Callaway was the sole vote against the new map . . . . . .

"McManus Mailer Makes No Sense..."Now there you go again." As a self-annointed conservative, Bill McManus should be familiar with Ronald Reagan's oft-repeated quote. Once more, his handlers at the Calaveras Business Coalition have cobbled a chicken-little campaign mailer based on fantasy rather than fact. ...

"NO on Prop 16...By now, I’m sure you’ve received enough “Vote Yes on Prop 16” mailers to paper your garage. Catchy slogans like “The Taxpayers Right to Vote Act”, “If’ you’re tired of feeling powerless over how government spends your money” and “You should have a say before local governments spend your tax dollars to get into the electricity business” are obviously intended to appeal to everyone who is concerned about how our tax money is spent. But, as Paul Harvey would have said…Now – the REST of the story....

Press Release Regarding FPPPC Campaign Filings~From Bill McManus

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/04/2010 10:53 AM
June 3, 2010 Hanford Hill, Calaveras County. Late this afternoon I received a call from Dana Nichols, reporter for the Stockton Record. Dana informed me that my campaign filings were still not available at the County Elections office. I called the aforementioned office and verified that the filings were not there. The documents were mailed, via first class postage from the Arnold post office on May 27, 2010. Additionally a copy was mailed to the California Secretary of States office at the same time. While it seems extremely odd that the Elections Office had not received them, I have taken the following steps to ensure complete and total disclosure. I faxed a copy to the Elections Office and will follow up with `hand delivered' copies tomorrow morning. I have faxed copies to the Stockton Record. I contacted Joel Metzger,of the Calaveras Enterprise, and told him of the problem and will`hand deliver' a copy to them tomorrow morning(not in time to answer the Enterprise's article), but he assured me they would appear in the `online' edition of the Enterprise. I also `hand delivered' a copy to the PineTree for online publication ....

"Dirty Politics...Bill McManus, the fellow with an arsenal of mean-spirited deeds, has missed yet another filing deadline required for the upcoming election in District 3. Since candidates are bound by law to submit their financial statements by May 27, many are asking why hasn’t he or been kicked off the stump? I haven’t a clue, though it seems the PAC, backing McManus in Valley Springs, finally pulled together their act, and submitted their financial statement. Now we know they have contributed a large sum of money towards McManus’ campaign and paid for two mailers attacking his opponent, Merita Callaway....

"QUALIFICATIONS KEY IN LOCAL ELECTIONS...A few months ago our current Treasurer/Tax Collector placed before the BOS a draft ordinance which would have established specific requirements for the office she was vacating due to her retirement. I was shocked when the BOS turned down this request. I addressed the BOS in public session that it seemed ridiculous that “fogging the mirror” be the only qualification for such an important position....
