Signing Anniversary of the U.S. Constitution ~By Al Segalla |

Copperopolis, CA..Today, September 17, is the 226th Anniversary of the historical signing of the U.S. Constitution. I think, if we would but follow the constitution, most of our problems would disappear and our children could look forward to living in a free and prosperous county. Here is what the father of our country had to say about this document: "I consider myself honored to have presided over the Constitutional Convention that conceived of this document. It took several months and was the subject of much debate until, I believe, with the help of the Almighty, it came together in its final form. I venture to say that this document described a unique form of government unlike any other heretofore experienced, respecting the freedom and rights of the individual....

Murphys, CA... My daughter told me the best sound bite she's ever seen from a food critic was “music in your mouth”. Well, in that case I experienced a symphony in my mouth at Lorrucio's Sicilian Cuisine in Murphys, CA, last night. I am no food critic but I feel compelled to tell everyone what I found that delighted me so much (and I'm not that easily delighted!)....

69% and 62% Rate Increase - Is CCWD Serious? ~Letter To The Editor by Bertha Underhill |
Posted by: thepinetree on 07/09/2013 08:21 AM
|
Camp Connell, CA...The most important meeting to attend this year is the Calaveras County Water District Rate Hearing for the Proposed Rate Increase of 69% for water and 62% for wastewater over the next five years. It will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the CCWD Board Room, 423 East St. Charles St., in San Andreas at 9 am. This Public Hearing will determine if the CCWD Directors will burden the CCWD customers with the most outrageous Rate Increase in the history of CCWD. For 45 days, CCWD has attempted to pull this ill-conceived plan, citing infrastructure repair and capital improvements, over the eyes of the ratepayers, all over the County,... |

Letter to CCWD Board ~ Letter to the Editor by Robert Watson |

Vallecito, CA... I am a property owner in Vallecito (20 years) and have some comments re the increase in rates. Prior lawsuit. Prior boards loss $900,000 in a lawsuit (Mid 90's)that should have never gone to trial. The suing party had been on the Water Board. Shows that the Board has made bad decisions in the past and seems to continue to do so. Salaries: Most recent GM salary was around $200,000. Way out of line for the job. What justifies a salary at that level for a small water company... |

Time to come clean ~Letter to the editor by Dennis Mills |

Vallecito, CA...After attending all three town hall presentations by the CCWD staff, there is a need to put some background to this effort to substantially raise rates. First, we need to read between the lines about what was not talked about. How we got here should have been clearly spelled out by our district staff and it was not. The staff said it was all about future connections that didnt materialize and a lower tax income. The districts yearly audited financial reports say differently... |

Water Rates and Seed Corn ~ Letter To The Editor by Al Segalla |
Posted by: thepinetree on 06/23/2013 10:13 PM
|
Copperopolis, CA...In the olden days, a farmer growing corn would save a portion of the harvest as seed corn to plant next year. He didn’t have to do this; he could eat the seed corn. But, if he ate the seed corn, there would be no crop next year and the family would suffer.

Can we opt out of CCWD? Letter To The Editor by Julie Hollars |
Posted by: thepinetree on 06/21/2013 02:48 PM

Vallecito, CA...In 1988 many local residents were mandated to switch from on sight septic systems to the Calaveras County Water District. Vallecito was one of the “low income areas” of concern. There were town hall meetings addressing the concerns for cost but, the public was assured that the extremely affordable $14.00 a month wastewater charge would never increase except for normal inflation. What an incredible Public Service CCWD would provide for Calaveras County right? |

Sometimes Bad Math Makes Everything Add Up! By John Hamilton |

Arnold, CA...As many of you know who have stopped by ThePineTree.net over the last 8 years we try to resist the urge to write editorials. We feel our readers probably do not care or should care what our personal thoughts are on a given matter. Today on Father's Day though I couldn't resist as I thought I should pass along a personal reminder that all of us have more strength than we think. I hope my experiences last night and this morning might help you redouble your efforts as it has really helped me. Ok enough stalling and onto the story...as some of you know at the ripe old age of 47 ½ I made the decision to try and get back into shape and after losing 70lbs or so and keeping it off I felt fairly positive about the progress on many levels... |
