Letter To The Editor On Valley Springs Public Utilities District ~ By Valentino Passetti

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/09/2015 03:21 PM
Valley Springs, CA...My name is Valentino Passetti and my wife and I live here at 863 Paloma Road, Valley Springs, Ca. My wife and I have been attending the Valley Springs Public Utilities Department meetings lately because the VSPUD wants to relocate the sewage plant to a site two miles away from its current location, all uphill, to the now closed, clay plant off Paloma Road. A business man by the name of Tom Coe who now owns this location along with another 700 connecting acres, offered to the VSPUD a donated 5 acre parcel for the VSPUD 5 acres sewage pond that would be needed, and sell to the VSPUD a 99 years lease on 30 acres of his connecting 700 acres parcel to accommodate the new 30 acre spray fields, and the sewage storage pond. Because of the donated 5 acres and the 99 Lease offer from Tom Coe, the VSPUD wants to tear up 2 miles of Paloma Road to place two pipes side by side, four miles of pipe, repave Paloma Road and build all new facilities for the VSPUD new 50 acre sewage pond, and lease from Tom Coe on a 99 year lease, 30 acres for a newly installed sewage storage pond and what will become a contaminated 30 acre spray field.

Today Is The Fourth Of July. What Does That Mean Aside From Celebrating Our National Independence? ~By Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/04/2015 11:56 PM
Copperopolis, CA...As a kid, I was excited about the fire crackers, rockets and sparklers. We didn't usually get to watch the big fireworks shows. I liked putting a cherry bomb under a tin can, shooting it 30 feet up in the air. Totally cool! Too bad my dad didn't think so. After much reading I discovered the 4th can mean so much more than independence and cherry bombs - even BBQs. It can be a celebration of human liberty!

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/18/2015 02:26 PM
Valley Springs, CA...Ford Construction Company the operators of the New Hogan Rock Quarry for the past 20+ years has requested that the Calaveras Planning Department review the possibility of placing a Hot Asphalt Mixing Plant at their existing quarry location. Peter Maurer, Calaveras County’s Planing Director reviewed the request and determined that the existing M2 zoning at the quarry property allows for the installation of a asphalt plant without the need for a EIR or Conditional use Permit.

Cal Fire Electricity Service Inspections? ~ Letter To The Editor By Alex Stromeyer

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/29/2015 10:07 AM
Arnold, CA...I have noticed many property owners who have not cleared their electricity service lines from PG&E's service to their homes.Far too many neglected service drops are overgrown with trees rubbing the insulation off the service electricity lines that send power to homes.I know many hate "Big Government", "Big Brother", however when it comes to the public good for all, and wildfires are a public issue, we all are threatened by wild fires, it makes good sense that Cal Fire inspect all service drops to homes in Calaveras County...

Stop Draining New Melones for Environmental Purposes ~ By Calaveras County Republican Party

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/24/2015 07:38 AM
Angels Camp, CA...Severe drought conditions plague California and the governor has mandated that residents conserve water. Meanwhile, two entities, the Bureau of Reclamation (which is responsible for storing our water) and the California State Water Resources Control Board (which is responsible for monitoring our water resources) have chosen to ignore these challenging drought conditions and release billions of gallons of water from New Melones Reservoir for Environmental Purposes!

Pine Needle Removal In Calaveras County ~ By David Carr

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/15/2015 09:20 AM
Arnold, CA...As most of you know by now that we have a problem disposing of the pine needles this year. From what I understand on or about March 25, 2015 the co-generation plant has stopped/reduced the amount of pine needles they will be accepting. So this affected all of us business owners that do lot clean up as well as landscapers and anybody who has dealings with yard debris. This also affects the local residents as well...

A Sad Day & Last Day For Julliene Sproul At Avery Transfer Station ~ Letter To The Editor By Chuck Hetland

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/03/2015 06:44 AM
Avery, CA...Monday March 30th was a sad day for Arnold residents because it was Mrs. Sproul's last day at the Avery Transfer Station. As the senior employee of GAMBI on site, she was recently offered the very worst job, sitting in a small outhouse checking identification at the gate, as mandated by the county. She declined, so now she will be applying for unemployment. Anyone who has used the facility knows how clean, pleasant smelling and efficient the transfer station has been during her tenure. We have Mrs. Sproul to thank for that. Please join me in recognizing her many years of fair, evenhanded service to our community....

Calaveras County General Plan, Concerns ~ Letter To The Editor By Calaveras County Republican Party

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/26/2015 11:03 AM
San Andreas, CA...It is our position that our Board of Supervisors in 2006 grossly erred with their original decision to undertake a “Comprehensive Overhaul” of our county’s 1996 General Plan. The BOS was sold a bill-of-goods, based on some very creative assumptions, with a price tag of $1 million+ dollars. These assumptions delivered by and outside group have proven to be without merit, reckless and because of the high dollar amount extracted from our unaware BOS, deplorable. Then over the past 9 years, with multiple revisions of the General Plan and Planning Directors, all adding to the confusion and concern as to the direction our rural county’s was headed. With each revision comes more ambiguous planning language, more restrictive and complex zoning and property rights challenges, all infuriating property owners and stalling development, one of our vital economic engines...
