CCWD Isn’t Letting Its Guard Down On Conservation ~ Guest Opinion Part Two By Terry Strange

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/12/2016 01:52 PM
San Andreas, CA....We just endured a four-year drought that was so severe, scientists had to go back more than a thousand years in tree ring records to find its equal. While the 2012-2015 dry spell may have been interrupted by a near-average winter in 2015-2016, and some reservoir levels have increased significantly, that doesn’t mean the state of California is out of the drought. And that’s why, even with our own drought-resilient water supply, the Calaveras County Water District is not letting its guard down when it comes to conservation.

Are We Asking The Right Questions? Letter To The Editor By Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/23/2016 12:29 PM
Copperopolis, CA...During this Presidential election process are we asking the right questions? One fundamental question could be: Should the US remain a free and independent Republic? If the answer is no, then all the discussion about the border has less meaning. Also, if the answer is no, discussion about the size and extent of our government would also have less meaning. If we are not to be free, why have concern about government expansion and widespread dependency on government?

A Note From Calaveras County Supervisor Steve Kearney, District 5

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/10/2016 09:34 PM
Rancho Calaveras, CA...I have been presented with a Notice of Intent to Recall my seat as a Calaveras County Supervisor. This action is being brought by a small group of ‘elites’ that feel the ‘wants and wishes’ of a select few should outweigh the ‘needs and wishes’ of the many in Calaveras County. The basis for their claim is not factual and is completely inaccurate (details below). This group is not new and has a long history of inflicting ‘economic terrorism’ against the people of Calaveras County which has resulted in keeping Calaveras County one of the poorest in the state, which is a distinction I want to change for the better. During my election it was no secret that I stood for jobs and economic growth for Calaveras County. I welcome the opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to bringing quality growth and economic prosperity to all. I encourage all of you to join me in rejecting the anti-job movement and let’s make Calaveras County economically healthy for our children and grandchildren.

Commissioner Wooster Misquoted ~ Letter To The Editor By Vicky Reinke

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/21/2016 09:00 AM
Angels Camp, CA...Commissioner Wooster’s comment is being taken out of context and misrepresented to the public. Mr. Wooster did not say “the term invasive species should include people from Mexico”. It is shameful that the media and the opposition are twisting his words to reflect a different meaning.

In Defense of Wooster ~ Letter To The Editor By Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/16/2016 01:16 PM
San Andreas, CA...This is regarding the calls for ouster of Planning Commissioner Kelly Wooster. Poor choice of words, for sure. He should have said "Illegal immigrants" or "Mexican Cartels",which I think he meant. He apologised. Nuf said.

We Request The Immediate Removal Of Commissioner Wooster ~ Letter To The Editor By Josh & Desiree Fleck

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/16/2016 11:10 PM
Angels Camp, CA....We request the immediate removal of Commissioner Wooster from his position following his offensive racial remarks made to the public at the Planning Commission meeting on March 3rd. Although we were not present when the statements were made, as residents of this community we are affected by this atmosphere of racism and subsequent condoning of this behavior by the Board of Supervisors....

Thank You Deputy District Attorney Jeff Stone ~ By Gary L. Stevens

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/06/2016 10:19 AM
San Andreas, CA...I would like to express my appreciation to Calaveras County Deputy District Attorney Jeff Stone for his courteous demeanor during the recent Kenfort Williams court case. Mr. Stone contacted me in advance to notify me that the case was coming back to court for trial. Mr. Stone took the time to discuss the merits of the the case with me. I had intended to watch part of the trial, however the case settled, and there was no trial.

Road Charging Is Potential Long-Term Transportation Funding Solution ~ Op-Ed By Jim Madaffer, Chair of the Road Charge Technical Advisory Committee and California Transportation

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/28/2016 10:59 AM
Sacramento, CA...California drivers are bearing the burden of the state’s transportation funding crisis, with the average driver spending more than $500 a year to repair the wear and tear on their vehicle caused by bad roads. Gas tax revenues currently fund most of the state’s road maintenance and repairs, but gas tax revenues are declining as cars become more fuel efficient and as drivers adopt hybrids and electric vehicles. Caltrans estimates the funding gap to be about $5.7 billion per year for the state highway system alone.

"Dear General Dunford, Please use your military expertise and council of the Joint Chiefs Of Staff to plan and execute plans to eliminate the ISIS threat to the free world. Letter to the Editor/Thank You to Butte Fire Evac Center Volunteers ~ By Carrie Stroble

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/13/2015 05:39 PM
Angels Camp, CA...Please help me thank the selfless people in our community who stepped up during the first two days of the Butte Fire at the animal evacuation center established at the Calaveras Fairgrounds on September 10th. During these first two days, people came together to support the People and Animals affected by this fire. When my mother and I showed up at the fairgrounds to “volunteer” on Friday morning, we found Mr. Beck had bussed over students from Bret Harte High School. These kids hauled out goat panels in the livestock barns and were setting up pens to hold dogs and livestock. In the Small Animal Barn, they brought out the poultry and rabbit pens that were used to hold all types of small animals during the first two days. The students divided themselves into groups and with little direction got it done. Their actions made it possible for animals to be held in the safest and securest manner possible during these first couple of days. Cats, dogs, snakes, mice, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, llamas and hogs showed up in the barns, and a collective of non-affiliated volunteers took these animals in, got them housed and kept them cared for in three of the five barns at the Calaveras Fairgrounds. Horses were taken in and managed by a group of volunteers down at the rodeo arena.
