Calaveras County Search and Rescue 35th Anniversary

San Andreas, CA...On behalf of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Rick DiBasilio is pleased to recognize the 35th Anniversary of the Calaveras County Search and Rescue Team’s existence as an official branch of the Sheriff’s Office. While previous Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have existed in Calaveras County for over 50 years, in 1987 the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution which authorized the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office to oversee search and rescue operations in Calaveras County which unified previous SAR teams. The result was the organization of the SAR team as it exists today.

Human Remains Found in Forested Area Near South Fork Road Near Twain Harte

Twain Harte, CA...On Monday, January 24th at approximately 1:30 p.m. deputies responded to the area of South Fork Road near Twain Harte for a report of heavily decomposed human remains found in a ravine near the area of the old Sierra Pines Golf Course. Deputies on scene confirmed the remains were human and detectives were called to the scene to investigate further.

Transient Arrested on Arson Charges for Setting Fire in Structure

Sonora, CA...On 01/18/2022, at approximately 1257 hours, a call came into the Sonora Police Department of a possible fire in a structure near the intersection of S. Stewart St. and W. Church St. Officer’s arrived on scene and contacted 43-year-old Grady Pinkevich of Sonora. During the investigation, Pinkevich told the officer that he was transient and was trying to make the structure his residence. Pinkevich told the Officer that there were items in the building that he set on fire to get rid of.

Sonora Woman Arrested on Stolen Property & Trespassing Charges

Sonora, CA...Just after 5 A.M. on January 22nd, a Sergeant from the Sonora Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at a business in the 1000 block of Sanguinetti Rd. The reporting party that the store was closed to the public until 6 A.M. When the Sergeant arrived on scene, he saw employees escorting 41-year-old transient Sophia Tate out of the business. The Sergeant knew Tate from previous contacts and knew that she had been arrested hours before for being in possession of stolen property. The Sergeant placed Tate under arrest and retrieved stolen property that she was carrying from the business.

Traffic Update....Avoid Hwy 49 North of Mokelumne to Amador County Line.

Mokelumne Hill, CA...From CHP San Andreas..."The roadway is completely blocked and this collision did result in a fatality. Please avoid the area and detour either through West Point on SR-26 or Burson Rd to Camanche Parkway or Wallace on SR-12 to SR-88. Crews on scene are expecting the roadway to be closed until 8:00pm tonight.
Avoid SR-49 north of Mokelumne Hill at the Amador County line. There is a major traffic collision. We are trying to get updates from units on scene."
