San Andreas, CA...On February 19, 2022, members from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office attended the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy graduation to welcome five new deputies. Over the six months, 952 hours, Academy deputies received instruction on various training topics. Some topics included de-escalation, firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation, report writing, proper radio techniques, community-oriented policing and other contemporary law enforcement practices.

Expired Registration Tabs lead to DUI arrest and Drug Charges |

Sonora, CA...Just before 2:00 am, an officer spotted a 2004 Cadillac Escalade with expired tabs traveling on Barretta Street. The officer conducted the traffic stop and soon determined the driver, 24-year-old Collin King of Sonora was under the influence of alcohol. King was taken into custody for suspicion of being three times the legal limit to drive in California.

Domestic Violence Investigation Leads to Attempted Murder Charges for Groveland Man |

Groveland, CA...On Monday February 21st at about 7:30 in the evening deputies responded to Clements Road in Groveland for a report of domestic violence. Once on scene, deputies spoke to a victim with multiple injuries who told Deputies 36-year-old Jordan Gaestel was intoxicated and had physically attacked her. The victim told deputies during an argument Gaestel punched her, held a knife to her throat, drug her by her hair, struck her with a frying pan and choked her to the point she lost consciousness. The victim said Gaestel told her she could not leave and threatened to kill her at different times throughout the incident, causing her to fear for her life. The victim was luckily able to escape to a neighboring residence where she called for help.

Sheriff Canine Team Demonstrates for Armed Women of America |

Valley Springs, CA...On February 13, 2022, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was invited to attend the Armed Women of America (Mother Lode Chapter) to share dialogue regarding firearms safety and conduct a demonstration of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Canine Program. The well attended meeting was held at the Veterans Halls in Valley Springs.
