Pat was born in Stockton to Andrew & Genevieve Fischer on Feb. 15, 1931. She attended Mokelumne Hill elementary and Calaveras High School. As a child growing up she enjoyed helping her Dad on the family ranch, riding horses and chasing cattle. The Calaveras Redskins Hold Their Last Redskins Homecoming Rally (Updated) |
Posted by: thepinetree on 11/03/2015 09:32 AM
|
San Andreas, CA....Depending on how the district implements the new law forcing them to change their Redskins mascot. Last Friday's Downtown Rally may have been the last Redskins Downtown Rally. If the mascot changes are needed or if it is just another instance of political correctness run amok time will tell. For the generations of Calaveras High Students who were very proud to be Redskins their choice is obvious. The district will not be forced to remove infrastructure but they will not be able to spend funds on existing things such as scoreboards etc. So as infrastructure reaches the end of it's lifespan the Redskin name will gradually fade into history. As someone with a measurable amount of Native American DNA I think the name change is just sad, political correctness that diminishes Native American culture and moves it further to the sideline of history and culture. The Rally worked and the Redskins went on to defeat their homecoming foes 42-7 (Editor's Note: My Great Grandmother was 100% Chickasaw. My father served as a 7th & 8th Grade Teacher and Principal of an elementary school on a reservation near Holbrook, Arizona for several years.)
