Hwy 26 Scheduled To Reopen At Higdon Road Closure On April 21st! |

Calaveras County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed eastbound and westbound State Route 26 (SR-26) from Higdon Road to the North Fork Mokelumne River Bridge, just west of West Point, for road repairs due to storm damage. The full highway closure will continue as repairs are being made with an estimated date for opening on April 21, 2017. Inclement weather and cold temperatures may be contributing factors in completing this work. Motorists should expect up to 60-minute delays as they seek alternate routes. Detour information is as follows: Eastbound detour – take northbound SR-49 to eastbound SR-88 Westbound detour – take SR-88 to southbound SR-49 to SR-26

Show us what you’ve got! We are proud to be bringing a mud run to Mountain Ranch this year — the first of its kind! We are planning on approximately 16 obstacles along the route that will range from fire fighter skills to strength and endurance tests. Christopher Hiser, 22 From Sonora Lost His Life Yesterday In Tree Operations Off Of Whiskey Slide Road |

Mountain Ranch, CA...The tragic notifications to his family have been completed and Calaveras County Coroner Kevin Raggio has released that it was 22 year old Christopher Hiser from Sonora that lost his life yesterday when he was struck by a limb from a tree. He was working for a tree contractor and was in a bucket truck and the limb which according to the Coroner's office was not that large fell from above where he was working. The limb was large enough however to tragically end his life and he passed away at the scene. Below is from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department that fills in a few more details.

Sheriff's Department Seeking Tips On Wilseyville Marijuana Robbery Case |

Wilseyville, CA...On 04/03/17 at 1:05 AM the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3000 block of Railroad Flat Road in Wilseyville for a male subject yelling for help. Deputies arrived at the residence and found a 36-year-old victim tied up inside his home. Deputies learned that at approximately 12:00 AM three to five masked subjects, armed with long guns forced entry into the victim’s residence. The suspects forced the victim onto the floor and held him there at gunpoint while they searched his home. The victim was bound and tied up. The suspects reportedly took over 100 pounds of processed marijuana from the residence in addition to a large sum of cash. The suspects also stole the victim’s truck. Calaveras County Detectives responded to the scene and are conducting follow-up.

San Andreas, CA...I have been repeatedly asked about Marijuana and the safety of Calaveras citizens. Last year the voters of California chose to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana and to allow the small scale cultivation of marijuana. In addition, marijuana cultivation has now become a land use issue based upon decisions by the voters and the Board of Supervisors. In 2016, the previous Calaveras County Board of Supervisors chose to allow large commercial cultivation inside of residential areas of Calaveras County through an “Urgency Ordinance.”
