Angels Camp, CA...Live On!, a Calaveras County non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the silence and stigma associated with suicide is having their 3rd Annual Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, September 15, 2012. It will be held from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp. There will be a kids booth with crafts, snacks and supervision. Nationwide over 32,000 people die by suicide per year. Over 3,500 of those deaths are in California and Calaveras County has had double the national suicide rate per capita the last few years...

Mountain Ranch, CA...The annual “Day in the Park” celebration will be held on Saturday August 25, 2012. This 33rd annual event is free, and a family day of fun, with entertainment and games. Located on Mountain Ranch Road and Whiskey Slide Rd. in Mountain Ranch. Free Parking. Festivities begin at 12 noon with music by various groups that will carry on all day. Antique and restored cars, trucks, motorcycles or any other vehicles will be on display starting at 12 noon. Open to all. West Point, CA...Plan B performs for Calaveras Arts in West Point on August 15, 2012 Local favorites and “Best Band” for five years running, Plan B, performs on August 15 at West Point Elementary School. Music begins at 6:30p and ends at 8:00p. Jim Bailey, Vince & Keno Rojas make up Plan B band. Jim plays drums, Keno is on guitar, and Vince plays base. They tailor their music to fit the audience with an emphasis on rock hits from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. This trio has performed all around the foothills and is rockin’ on the music from the Allman Brothers to ZZ Tops, the Motown sounds of the Temptations, and to the songs of crooner, Dean Martin. They know how to make the music and make the crowd happy...

5,100 Marijuana Plants Eradicated

Mokelumne Hill, CA... On 08-10-2012 members of the Calaveras County Narcotics Enforcement Team in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management and the newly formed CERT (Cannabis Eradication and Reclamation Team) eradicated approximately 5,100 mature marijuana plants. The plants were removed from public land located in steep terrain above the Mokelumne river drainage near Mokelumne Hill. Evidence found on site indicated that persons were likely living in the area of the grow sites, and additional evidence indicated that the subjects had been armed. Upon entry to the site one or more subjects fled from the scene and into thick brush; no suspects were able to be located or arrested...

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Thank you so much for standing by us. We have taken back over management of the Historic Hotel Leger as of last Thursday. We are planning many fun events in the months to come.
Thank you so much for such a warm welcome back! If the weekend was any indication, then we know we will be successful in having fun and giving our all to our guests and locals...a great time with us! Thank you to all who volunteered and supported us as we put things back together - it was truly a small town barn raising!

Errant Wide Load Cause of Hwy 49 Closure

Mokelumne Hill, CA...CHP has issued a release on this morning's incident that snarled traffic on Hwy 49 for over 3 hours. At approximately 9:40am this morning a big rig hauling a modular home, escorted by two pilot cars, was traveling southbound on Hwy 49 near the top of the Mokelumne Grade. The vehicle with "wide load" signs front and back, was allowed to drift to the right of the southbound lane where it crossed the asphalt curb...

Blue Mountain Group Awared Grant From Home Depot!

West Point, California, August, 2012 – Through its Community Impact Grants Program, The Home Depot® Foundation has awarded $4,400 to the BMC Workshop of the Blue Mountain Community Renewal Council.
