West Point, CA...Robert P. Carpenter Passed away on Aug. 22nd. 2017 at the age of 86. Born in Waterford, Ca. His first wife was Nancee, Second wife is Janice, they were married for 31yrs. Loving father to Jill Weichert and Kevin Carpenter, grandfather to Jared, Caleb Weicherd, Emilie Rotans and Nancee Carpenter. Great grandfather to 8 grandchildren.

David Daniel Ramey 1958 - 2017

West Point, CA...David Daniel Ramey passed away from a short battle with cancer on 8/11/17 surrounded by family. Born in Castro Valley CA to Monford and Betty Ramey on 6/3/58. David was in the Army from 1976-1979 where he was stationed in Germany. After the Army David worked at Glass Containers and Foodmaker in Hayward CA. He was married and had a daughter Ashley in 1991 that is the light of his life. David decided to move to Sulphur in 2010 to spend time with his Dad and the rest of the Ramey family. While in OK he worked at various labor jobs and a few years at Carbonex. He loved to draw, read and learn about American history with the gold rush era being his favorite. When David was diagnosed with Cancer he returned home to spend time with his family in California.

Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Moke River Supply Needs on August 28th

Mokelumne Hill, CA...The Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) and the Calaveras Public Utility District (CPUD) are hosting a town hall meeting Monday Aug. 28 to seek community input on a countywide long-term water supply needs assessment of the Mokelumne River, which is currently in progress. The final assessment will be submitted to the California Natural Resources Agency to inform its suitability study for wild and scenic designation of portions of the Mokelumne River, as is required by AB 142 (Bigelow). Input from interested citizens and those who live in communities along the Mokelumne River is welcome and appreciated. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Monday August 28 at the Mokelumne Hill Town Hall, 8283 Main Street, Mokelumne Hill.

4-H Youth Development Program is Open for Enrollment

Placerville, CA...We are currently holding Open Enrollment for our 4-H Youth Development Programs in Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado and Tuolumne counties. Enrollment is available all year but October 15, 2017 is the deadline to register for returning members that want to show at county fair. New members must be enrolled by December 1st, 2017 to be eligible for fair. 4-H Youth Development helps young people reach their full potential as competent, confident and caring leaders of character who are connected to others and contribute to their communities.

Rail Road Flat, CA...Lucas Nathaniel Bur was born August 23, 1986 at Jackson, CA. He was 30 years old. He grew up in Railroad Flat, CA, and had returned and lived there again for the last two years of his life. Lucas found his longed-for peace on July 25, 2017, in the National Forest in Calaveras County, CA., after 20 years of quietly battling depression.

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Arthur John Novotny, cherished Dad, Grandpa, Friend, passed away on August 12, 2017, at the age of 85. He was a longtime resident of Mokelumne Hill. Art was born in Stockton, CA to Eleanor and John Novotny. He attended elementary school in White Pines and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1950. Art worked as an Accountant/Controller in both Calaveras and Amador Counties.

Calaveras Supervisors Honor Superintendent of Schools Kathy Northington's 40 Year of Service as an Educator

San Andreas, CA...Retiring Calaveras Superintendent of Education Kathy Northington was honored this morning at the Board of Supervisors Meeting. Kathy attended school at Wallace and Valley Springs elementary schools, graduated from Calaveras High School in 1969 and attended California State University, Sacramento, where she received her bachelor’s degree in child development and her teaching credentials. Kathy returned to Calaveras County as a teacher at Rail Road Flat, Valley Springs and Copperopolis elementary schools from 1977-1987. While teaching she continued her education and received her master’s degree in school administration from the University of San Francisco in 1985.

San Andreas, CA...Beginning on 7/31/17 the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, The California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, California State Water Board, Central Valley Regional Water Board, Calaveras County District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol and CalFire began the service of 23+ search warrants through Calaveras County relating to multiple ongoing criminal investigations regarding the illegal cultivation of marijuana and directly related environmental crimes.
