CCWD Seeks Community Input, Releases Hazard Mitigation Survey

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Water District invites community members to take a short survey that will help inform the update of its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). Public input is a critical component of a successful and comprehensive update. The purpose of the plan is to protect people and properties from the effects of hazards by developing mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate long-term risk.

Major Injuries to Wilseyville Man After Collision

West Point, CA...On February 5, 2018, at approximately 1715 hours, San Andreas CHP Officers were dispatched to a traffic collision on Schaad Road, north of Blue Mountain Road. The investigating officer determined that Mr. Donald Denison, of Wilseyville, was driving his 2007 Ford F150 northbound on Schaad Road when he fell asleep behind the wheel.

Susan Cloud, 64 From Copperopolis & Raymond Ladd, 63 from Angels Camp Lost Their Lives Mokelumne Hill Collision

Mokelumne Hill, CA...On February 3, 2018, at approximately 2206 hours, CHP San Andreas units responded to a traffic collision on SR-49 at Center Street in Mokelumne Hill. The investigating officers determined that Vieira was driving his 2013 International northbound on SR-49 approaching Center Street. Cloud was driving her 1999 Dodge westbound on Center Street approaching SR-49. Cloud made a left turn onto SR-49, directly into the path of Vieira's vehicle. The front of Vieira's vehicle collided with the left side of Cloud's vehicle. As a result of the collision, Cloud sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Cloud's passenger, Ladd, was transported from the scene by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries. Vieira sustained minor injuries, but refused transport.

Mark Twain Medical Center & Soroptimist Offering FREE Cholesterol Tests During February

San Andreas, CA...As part of a continuing partnership with Soroptimist International of Calaveras County, Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be offering FREE cholesterol tests for women in Calaveras County during American Heart Month in February. This FREE screening is also known as a lipid panel. The test measures good and bad cholesterol and triglycerides helping to identify women at greater risk of heart disease and stroke. The “Take It to Heart Program” offers the free cholesterol tests throughout February to women who live in Calaveras County. A 12 hour fast is recommended or no food after midnight, as is proof of Calaveras County residency. Women needing the FREE cholesterol screenings do not need to schedule an appointment.
