Major Injuries in Mokelumne Hill Collision

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Late in the afternoon on May 6th a 20 year old Valley Springs man was driving a 2001 Mazda3, eastbound on SR-26, and was stopped for the posted stop sign at SR-49. A 56 year old Vallecito woman was driving a Mitsubishi Montero northbound on SR-49, approaching SR-26 at an unknown speed. The Valley Springs man failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection at the same time Mitsubish entered the intersection. As a result, the front of Mazda collided with the left side of the Mitsubishi.

Prescribed Fuels Reduction Burn Outside of West Point on May 8 & 9

West Point, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is conducting a prescribed burning operation on the Winton Vegetation Management Program (VMP) site, (6 miles east of West Point on Lilly Gap road). This prescribed burn is designed to reduce fuels on the VMP in conjunction with CAL FIRE employees and Cooperators.

Burn Permits Required May 1st in the TCU

San Andreas, CA...Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 8:00 AM the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will require burning permits within State Responsibility Areas of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. Burn hours will not be restricted; however, a transition to night time burning may occur as conditions change.

Mountain Ranch, CA...Can You Handle The Mud? The 2018 Stop Drop & Mud 5k is April 28th! What is the Stop, Drop & Mud? We are proud to be bringing a mud run to Mountain Ranch again this year. For our 2nd Annual Central Fire Mud Run we are planning approximately 16 obstacles along the route that will range from fire fighter skills to strength and endurance tests. Participants will start and finish at the Mountain Ranch Park in the heart of Mountain Ranch. All participants will receive a 2018 Stop, Drop & Mud T-shirt.

San Andreas, Ca...The proponents of the recall of District 2 Supervisor, Jack Garamendi, did not file the petition by the 5 p.m. deadline on Thursday, April 19, 2018. If the proponents intend to pursue the recall process, it must be initiated once again by serving the officer sought for recall with a Notice of Intent, and filing the Notice of Intent and proof of service with the Elections Office. The State Procedures for Recalling State & Local Officials as well as the County Quick Reference Guide of the recall process can be found on the County Elections website at : http://elections.calaverasgov.us/Next-Election/Candidate-and-Measure-Guides.

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Deputy Sheriff’s Association Proudly Presents the Annual Erica Seawell and Sheriff Gary Kuntz Memorial Golf Tournament. Sunday, April 22, 2018, Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort, Angels Camp, CA 8:00 am check in 9:00 am Shotgun Start, Entry Fee: $125.00. In memory of Erica Seawell and Sheriff Gary Kuntz, scholarship funds have been set up for 7 separate scholarships to be given to Calaveras and Bret Harte students. At this year’s tournament, we will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Last Place prizes for your gross score. A long drive contest and closest to the pin contest will also take place during the tournament. Entry fee includes golf, cart, on course contests, mulligans, 10 raffle tikets and dinner.
