San Andreas, CA...On 8-23-18 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served two search warrants for unrelated illegal marijuana grows. At the first location, in the 2000 block of Andreas Vista Drive in San Andreas, 191 large marijuana plants with an average height of 8-10 feet were eradicated. The second location in the 600 block of Smitty Lane, West Point resulted in the eradication of 465 marijuana plants.

Calaveras County Arts Council is Proud to Present the Annual Calaveras County Artists Studio Tour September 22 & 23!

San Andreas, CA...Thirty artists in nineteen locations throughout Calaveras County will open their homes and studios and display their artwork during the Calaveras County Arts Council Artists Studio Tour on September 22-23. The self-guided tour, free and open to the public, is an opportunity to meet the artists face-to-face, learn about their artwork, and discover treasures you will want to take home. Tour maps are available at businesses and public places throughout the county, as well as from the Arts Council. Call 209/754-1774 for more information, or go online at calaverasarts.org. There will be a special preview reception for Artists Studio Tour at the Gallery store at 22 N. Main Street in San Andreas on September 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. A general membership meeting will be held for the public as well. Artworks by the artists on the Artists Studio Tour will be on exhibit and there will be light refreshments; everyone is invited.


The kinetic and motorized sculptures by Vicki Burnham Wilson are a terrific addition to the gardens, gypsy wagons and blacksmithing at Michel Olson’s studio off Appaloosa Drive between Angels Camp and Copperopolis.


Ryan Anderson brings back the romantic art of vintage letterpress printing at his studio on French Gulch Road.


Sharon Strong’s masks (Pictured: Maori) are powerful pieces of art that remind us of our own spirits.


Shay Baker fills her Sheep Ranch studio with simple designs full of fun and fancy.

Major Injures to David Moore when His Scooter Went Down on Hwy 49

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Moore was riding his Yamaha Majesty scooter northbound on SR-49 north of Gold Rush Lane in "13 Curves". He was unable to negotiate a left hand curve and his Yamaha overturned, causing Moore to be ejected from his Yamaha. Moore sustained major injuries due to the collision and was life flighted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of his injuries.

West Point, CA...Music in the Parks presents The Magnolia Rhythm Trio. West Point Elementary School. West Point August 1, 2018, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. No admission fee or cover charge. Bring blankets, low-back chairs, dinner,cool drinks and yourselves. But please no alcohol or smoking; the school is a substance-free zone. The Magnolia Rhythm Trio is an Americana/Folk/Bluegrass based group focusing on tight harmonies. They choose music based on how it touches their hearts.

All concerts are free and family friendly. Join the Calaveras County Arts Council for a night of folk and rock and roll with The Bill Welles Band. Music in the park will be held in Mokelumne Hill at Shutter Tree Park on July 18th. Shutter Tree Park is located next to the Mokelumne Hill Library.

Firefighters Make Quick Work of Gillam Fire in Paloma Area ~ Chip Dingman

Paloma, CA...At about 8pm tonight firefighters were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire on Paloma Rd & Gillam Rd. The first on scene engine reported a vegetation fire of about 3 acres in size moving uphill with a moderate rate of spread, with one structure threatened. Firefighters quickly made access to the fire with the assistance of one copter making water drops were able to stop the forward progress. Firefighters contained the fire to 9.6 acres
