Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Cross Country played host to the 36th Annual Bjornloppet (Bear Race is the rough translation). There were 10k and 20k events on the beautiful, world class Bear Valley Meadow course. The 20k on Saturday and the 10k on Sunday were taken by Peter Mayfield with local Bear Valley racer and last year's winner Scott Fairman crossing in the second spot both days. Guy Schuman slid into first place in the 10k on Saturday with the flying female, 13 year old, Junior Olympic Bound, Raylene Chew sped into the second overall position. The weather was perfect and the times were fast. The Bjornloppet is a great race for anyone who wants to experience what cross country skiing is about....

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 03/03/2009 07:41 AM
Bear Valley, CA....The next system is slated to start out with high snow levels, then dropping as the storm progresses. 7 " of snow fell overnight. Look for some good riding on the upper Mtn. The Grizz got mixed precipitation last night, so it will be on hold for avalanche control. The winds are also on the rise, so the possibility of some chairs to go on wind hold is something to look for on the screen in the Cafeteria. The Backcountry avalanche hazard is moderate. Bear Valley, CA...This last weekend Bear Valley held the Second of their Giant Slalom Races for the winter season. The field was filled with young members of the Bear Valley Development Teams, Coaches & Ski Instructors and local hot shots.
