Bear Valley, CA...Be sure to Ring in the new year in Bear Valley Village! The Creekside Dining Room, Grizzly Bar & Grill and Sky High Restaurant and Pub will all be open to celebrate the evening. To make reservations for the Creekside, call 209-753-2327. After dinner join the New Year’s party in the Cathedral Lounge at the Lodge, featuring live music by “The Bills” from 8-12 midnight! The party will have a balloon drop at midnight followed by a spectacular Fireworks display sponsored by the Bear Valley Business Association. If you have never been, make plans to be there – it is a night to remember....

Celebrate early (East Coast time) then send the little ones to bed and enjoy the coming of the New Year around a toasty bonfire. Or head up to Bear Valley Lodge for its celebrations and FREE FIREWORK show at midnight. Tamarack Lodge at Bear Valley is only 2 1/2 miles from Bear Valley Village and 22 miles up the Highway from Arnold....

Lake Alpine, CA...I recently was out hiking off hwy 4, near the Woodchuck Basin trailhead, and while climbing up a hillside ridge I found a small digital camera, a Canon Powershot SD 1000, that had obviously been laying on the ground for quite some time (years). Where I found it was not close to any defined trail, I was climbing cross-country, so it might have lain there for decades before being accidentally found...

Bear Valley, CA...Lots of Fun Trails Open! Bear Valley Cross Country's trail system is open daily with at least 18 trails with groomed track and skating lanes. The staff has been performing their magic on the trails and the customer comments confirm that the XC skiing is fantastic! The groomed Tubing Area opens on Friday, December 20th. The cost is $16 per person for a 2-hour session, must be 3+ years of age (able to ride down the hill by yourself), and only BVCC rental tubes are allowed. The groomed trail system is open daily from 9am to 4:30pm and the tubing area is open daily from 9am to 4:00pm, except on Christmas Day, when the trails and tubing area close early at 2:00pm and the store and gas station close at 2:30pm.
