Donnell Fire 8am Update August 9, 21,097 Acres, 6% Contained, 136 Structures Lost

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/09/2018 08:59 AM
Pinecrest, CA...The fire pushed further up the Arnot and Disaster Creek drainages to the northeast. The fire crossed Douglas Creek on the north side of Highway 108. Overnight crews continued to make progress constructing dozer and hand lines off the Eagle Meadow (5N01) Road. Increased fire activity is expected today due to the lifting of the inversion layer and stronger southwest winds. Structure protection continues to be the priority along Highway 108 and the Eagle Meadow Road, including protecting the Bennett Juniper.

Hwy 4 High Country Update....Campgrounds Open at Spicer & Alpine, Gates Closed Into Highland Lakes

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/08/2018 04:56 PM
Bear Valley, CA...We just checked in the the Alpine County Sheriff's Dept on the potential impacts of the Donnell Fire in our neck of the woods. Today they closed the gates back into Highland Lakes as a precautionary measure. Campgrounds are all open with the only changes is the Spicer has been closed to all watercraft. Probably so helicopters can dip from Spicer without need to watch for watercraft. The Donell Fire has entered parts of Alpine County. Luckily Spicer is a very long lake and natural firebreak.

Donnell Fire Update....13,814 Acres, 5% Contained, Hwy 108 Still Closed

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/07/2018 10:31 PM
Pinecrest, CA...Fire spread was minimal today due to the inversion layer, although acreage did increase by about 2,000 acres due to better field verification. Calm conditions stayed in place most of the day allowing crews to focus on structure protection; clearing vegetation and extinguishing hot spots. The poor visibility continued to hamper air attack operations, but hand crews were able to put in several miles of line on the southwest side of the river. Firefighter and public safety, and structure protection continue to be the primary objectives of the fire.
