Hordes of Young Future Farmers at "Master Gardener's Day" Today!~By Mike Neale |
Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 08/23/2008 09:39 PM

San Andreas, CA....Today we visited the "Master Gardener's Open Garden Day" in San Andreas, California. There were hordes of young future farmers and gardeners learning, tasting, and enjoying the rewards of home farming and gardening at the County Center garden. And, the master gardener volunteers have got to be Calaveras' nicest, friendliest, most helpful team of gardening experts we've ever met. We bought plants, learned about preserving,...and more importantly, learned that our youth is keenly interested in growing,...then eating mother nature's food. Our future in agriculture is very bright!
Here is an image we took today of one of Calaveras' wonderful young future farmers, Dallon, who discovered that you can't plant strawberries in asphalt.....;-)

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 08/20/2008 04:01 PM
|
There is certainly nothing more beautiful than a properly maintained lawn. Following these simple hints will reduce your effort and guarantee a lawn that you can be proud of. Vary the mowing direction: Grass tends to grow in the direction it is mowed. To prevent your lawn from appearing to lean one way or the other, vary your mowing direction each time you mow. This will keep your grass looking straighter as well as prevent a washboard effect. To make sure....

Food Safety Starts in the Garden~By Ken Churches |
Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 08/13/2008 09:42 AM
|
Harvest time is here. There's nothing better than fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables from the garden, right? But wait - a word of caution is in order. Fruits and vegetables can be carriers of pathogens that cause food-borne illnesses such as E coli, Salmonella and Listeria, especially if animal manure has been used in or is near the garden.....
