A Wonderful Story "Grandpa's Hands" by Melinda Clements~Sent to us by Dean Eddy of Murphys

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/09/2009 06:27 PM
"Grandpa, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench. He didn't move, just sat with his head down staring at his hands. When I sat down beside him he didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if he was OK. Finally, not really wanting to disturb him but wanting to check on him at the same time, I asked him if he was OK. He raised his head and looked at me and smiled. "Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking," he said in a clear strong voice.....

Praying Hands by Albrecht Durer

Two Brothers

Back in the Fifteenth Century, in a tiny village near Nuremberg, lived a family with eighteen children.  Eighteen!  In order merely to keep food on the table for this mob, the father and head of the household, a goldsmith by profession, worked almost eighteen hours a day at his trade and any other paying chore he could find in the neighborhood....

D-Day ~By Mindi Bach

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/19/2008 11:27 AM
Angels Camp, CA...“Hurry up, mom. It’s D day,” my 4-year-old son, Sam, shouted from the door, “I want to learn letters again.” Somehow Sam had convinced me to home-school him this year, which essentially meant teaching the alphabet and turning on Disney Channel, or on days like today, heading to the park. “Donut starts with a D!” he continued. “And you promised me one after I play on the playground.” The screen door slammed and I heard his footsteps pounding toward the car...

All Hallows' Eve ~By Victor R. Claveau, MJ

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/19/2008 11:15 AM
Murphys, CA...ISSUE: Is the celebration of Halloween a pagan feast? May a Catholic celebrate Halloween in good conscience? What is the history of this popular American holiday? RESPONSE: We celebrate Halloween on the evening before All Saints Day. This feast commemorates the lives of Christians who lived exemplary lives of faith. Pope Sixtus IV introduced an octave to the feast day in the 1400s, which was celebrated until 1955...
