Angels Camp, CA....Four Compete for Saddle Queen The Calaveras Saddle Queen Competition has become one the Fair’s signature events. Four young women are competing for the title. The Fair’s scholarship fund will be awarding $2,000 in scholarship funds to the top three competitors. Young women are judged on their interview skills as well their horsemanship abilities. These hard working students have an extensive preparation process in and out of the Arena. The 2010 Cowgirls are Holly Zeller of Valley Springs, Marilyn Sanders of Douglas Flat, Kelsey Lowe also of Douglas Flat and Ashley Gilmore of San Andreas. Frogtown, CA....Calaveras County Farm Bureau played Co-Host to Ag-Day 2010. The Calaveras County Farm Bureau along with the Calaveras County Fair Grounds held their Annual Ag-Day 2010 at Frogtown. This event is offered to the 4th and 5th grade students from the county. Lorey C. Calaveras County, CA....The young ladies who are running for Miss Calaveras or Saddle Queen will be joining Miss Calaveras 2009, Kayla Smith and, Saddle Queen 2009, Catheryn Gulizia, and their respective courts as the featured guests at this years Coronation Ball. Those ladies who once held the title of Miss Calaveras, Belle of the Camp or Saddle Queen have again been invited. Over 150 people gathered at the barn at the Kautz Family Ranch, Hay Station, on Saturday night to eat great grub, ride the mechanical bull and dance to the California Cowboys. As guests arrived they were given a colorful bandana. Some wore them on their hats, some as kerchiefs and one guest even pretended to be a bank robber. When Peggy Lucas, Executive Director of the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, welcomed the guests, she noted, “ e’ve gone from the glitz and glamour of the organization’s 25th Anniversary and Dancing with the Sierra Stars in the ballroom at Ironstone, to hay and horses in the barn at Hay Station.“...

Happy Easter Readers, Spring has sprung! The daffodils are in full bloom trumpeting their brilliant colors along road ways, open fields and flower gardens. Angels Camp, CA.....Seven bright talented young women will be competing for the title of Miss Calaveras and a $1,000 scholarship. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship pageant is an eight week program that culminates in the stage competition at the Calaveras County Fair. The Program offers more than $2,700 in scholarship monies for contestants. In April the seven contestants will begin a rigorous rehearsal schedule.
