The Crash Course on Economics, Energy and the Environment is scheduled Four Monday Evenings: March 7, 14, 21 & 28 Facilitated by John Adams at World Mercantile & Gallery of Arts, 1267 S. Main St. in Angels Camp. 6:00pm Check-in & networking, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm Crash Course. There is no way to be certain how the future will unfold, but there is growing concern in many quarters that the next 20 years won’t be anything like the last 20 years! This seminar is presented in a four part series and is based on the works of Chris Martenson whose background as a research scientist led him to explore the inner workings of America’s financial system and resource base......

In Loving Memory of Eric Don Holden, 1966~2011

Angels Camp, CA....Eric Don Holden, of Angels Camp, so sadly passed away on January 13, 2011 of a heart condition. He was 44. Eric lived in Angels Camp for 3 years. He was a lumber yard foreman for 10 years. His survivors include his wife, Joann Holden of Angels Camp; Children, Desiree and Lacey Brittany Holden of Angels Camp; Parents, Don and Ann Holden; Siblings, Donna Holden, Gary Holden, Rhonda Hendricks and Linda Payton. Funeral Services will be held on March 16th, 2011 at the Jackson Park in Jackson, CA. "So long everybody, don't cry for me. This is not the place I'm supposed to be. For beyond the moon and star's I'll quickly fly. I'm finally happy, please everyone don't cry."....

Angels Camp, CA....Judging for this year's 'Chairs For Charity' event started tonight at the Mercantile in downtown Angels Camp. Artists, community luminaries, and patrons of the arts and our community from three counties focused their attention on furniture tranformed into art. Simple chairs had been tranformed into vehicles of expression by dozens of talented people of our community. Those'Chairs for Charity' will be offered next week as auction items at the 'Chairs for Charity' fundraiser at the San Andreas Town Hall.....

Sonora, CA...The wate rlevel, power generation and ongoing operations of New Melones were front and center at today's Tuolumne Couty Board Meeting. You may recall a firestorm erupted after the Oakdale Irrigation District came out with a report on the June 2009 National Marine Fisheries Service Biological Opinion would show drastic water level reductions...

Angels Camp, CA....Bret Harte Theater was the venue over the weekend for 3 performance of "Sleeping Beauty Kids" presented by CSTARS Kids, the local not-for-profit organization dedicated to performance arts education and opportunities for kids here in Calaveras County. The theater was full and the backstage dressing rooms a beehive of activity. There were more conical hats than this reporter had ever seen as the performance got under way at 2PM.....

New Melones Fishing Report for January 17th, 2011~by Glory Hole Sports

Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,525,122 acre-feet of water. The water level still rising with an additional 2 feet this week and is now 1008 ft. above sea level and 80 ft. from full capacity. Water temperature is about 52-56 degrees at the surface- warmer in the south side of the lake. Water is slightly stained. There is about a 6-10 foot visibility.....

The Calaveras Visitors Bureau participated in the Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show this past weekend in Santa Clara to spread the word about Calaveras County and all it has to offer to adventurous travelers. The CVB had an exciting opportunity to partner with Cave & Mine Adventures and share a booth at the show to distribute information about the audaciously unique experiences to be discovered in Calaveras County. Fourteen additional partners representing various areas of the county, including Valley Springs, Mokelumne Hill, Murphys, Angels Camp and Arnold joined forces with the CVB and Cave & Mine Adventures to have their materials distributed at the show....
