Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 08/25/2014 12:38 PM
Calaveras County, CA....Please come with me on a tour of the Calaveras County Water District system. The information I am about to share with you is accurate to the best of my knowledge however, these statements are mine alone as one of the five CCWD directors, and I do not presume to speak for the district officially. I will start by taking you to all on a tour of the major district facilities that cover all four corners of Calaveras County. It would be nearly impossible to visit all these facilities in only two days. We will start this tour from the district headquarters at 120 Toma Court in San Andreas.....

President Obama: James Foley's Life "Stands in Stark Contrast to His Killers"

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/20/2014 11:59 PM
Martha’s Vineyard, MA (The Edgartown School)...12:52 P.M. EDT THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon, everybody. Today, the entire world is appalled by the brutal murder of Jim Foley by the terrorist group, ISIL. Jim was a journalist, a son, a brother, and a friend. He reported from difficult and dangerous places, bearing witness to the lives of people a world away. He was taken hostage nearly two years ago in Syria, and he was courageously reporting at the time on the conflict there. Jim was taken from us in an act of violence that shocks the conscience of the entire world. He was 40 years old -- one of five siblings, the son of a mom and dad who worked tirelessly for his release. Earlier today, I spoke to the Foleys and told them that we are all heartbroken at their loss, and join them in honoring Jim and all that he did.

President Obama's Weekly Address: Everyone Should Be Able to Afford Higher Education

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/16/2014 12:25 PM
Martha's Vineyard, MA...Hi, everybody. Over the next couple weeks, schools all across the country will be opening their doors. Students will suit up for fall sports, marching band, and the school play; moms and dads will snap those first-day-of-school pictures -- and that includes me and Michelle. And so today, I want to talk directly with students and parents about one of the most important things any of you can do this year -- and that’s to begin preparing yourself for an education beyond high school...

Cracks In Twain Harte Lake Dam Update

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 08/03/2014 04:36 PM
Twain Harte, CA...At approximately 10:45 a.m., Tuolumne County emergency officials first received notification of leaks from a portion of the Twain Harte Lake Dam. This leak is occurring at a location where the dam interfaces with a large granite rock on the southern end of the dam. Water officials on site do not believe there is an eminent threat of failure of the dam. As a precautionary measure, approximately 2,000 gallons of water per minute is currently being released from Twain Harte Lake. At the same time, a commensurate amount of water is being released from the Phoenix Lake Reservoir which will receive the water from Twain Harte Lake. Some of this water will be absorbed into local streambeds (i.e. Twain Harte Creek and Sullivan Creek) and all remaining water will ultimately flow into Don Pedro Reservoir.
These water releases will continue until the Twain Harte Lake level has been reduced by approximately ten feet in elevation. This will lower the lake level to a point below where the leak is occurring. Water officials estimate it will take two days to complete this process. During this time, local stream levels will be above normal summer flows but below normal winter storm flows. While no flooding is expected persons living along Twain Harte Creek and Sullivan Creek should avoid those water ways until further notice...

President Obama's Weekly Address: It's Time for Congress to Help the Middle Class

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/02/2014 08:45 AM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. My top priority as President is doing everything I can to create more jobs and more opportunities for hardworking families to get ahead. On Friday, we learned that our economy created over 200,000 new jobs in July. That’s on top of about 300,000 new jobs in June. We’re now in a six-month streak with at least 200,000 new jobs each month. That hasn’t happened since 1997. All told, our businesses have created 9.9 million jobs over the past 53 months. That’s the longest streak of private-sector job creation in our history.
