San Andreas, CA... Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency - Public Health Division has issued a heat advisory for the County. We urge the public to act now to prevent heat-related illness. Temperatures of 100 degrees or more are expected over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, “Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to say cool in hot weather.” During this heat wave, be sure to:

USS Fitzgerald Involved in Collision, Seven Sailors Still Missing

Philippine Sea...USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) was involved in a collision with a merchant vessel at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time, June 17, while operating about 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan. As of this time, there have been two patients requiring medical evacuation. One was Cmdr. Bryce Benson, Fitzgerald's commanding officer, who was transferred to U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka and is reportedly in stable condition. A second MEDEVAC is in progress. Other injured are being assessed. There are seven Sailors unaccounted for; the ship and the Japanese Coast Guard continues to search for them.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise & Others Shot At Baseball Practice

Alexandria, VA...Earlier this morning members of congress were practicing for an upcoming charity baseball game and came under fire. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise sustained a hip wound. Others including members of their security detail and staffers were also shot. Details may changes but at this time it is being reported that as many as 5 may have been injured.

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement after receiving reports on the alleged shooter at a congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning: "I have just been informed that the alleged shooter at the Republican baseball practice is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign. I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms. Real change can only come about through nonviolent action, and anything else runs against our most deeply held American values.
Sheriff DiBasilio Announces Candidacy For Sheriff In 2018

San Andreas, CA...Sheriff DiBasilio has filed papers for candidacy for the 2018 election and has started the process of asking for public support. DiBasilio has worked at the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years and was hired as a recruit by the CCSO in 2002. He proceeded to work up in rank holding various positions. Patrol Deputy, School Resource Officer, Sheriff’s Explorer Advisor, Detective, and Sergeant. On October 29th, 2015, Sheriff Gary Kuntz, DiBasilio’s boss and friend, died unexpectedly. In May of 2016 DiBasilio was appointed to Sheriff of Calaveras County by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors by a 4 to 1 vote, with 4 other men applying for the position, to fill the remainder of Sheriff Kuntz’s second term in office.

Tuolumne, CA...On Wednesday, RCRC and the Northern California Center for International Trade Development (CITD) hosted the first in a series of Regional Trade Workshops scheduled throughout the state. RCRC and CITD partnered with the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority, and the U.S. Department of Commerce Sacramento U.S. Export Assistance Center to bring this free export services workshop to the mother lode region to teach local, small business owners the basics of starting or enhancing opportunities for exporting products and/or services from California’s rural counties to the global market.
