Sacramento, CA...Today at the former Sleep Train Arena, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California is making progress in securing additional beds to treat COVID-19 patients and relieve pressure on the health care delivery system. The Governor announced California has already secured up to 4,613 additional beds at alternate care sites and shuttered hospitals to care for an anticipated surge in COVID-19 patients, with even more capacity being finalized.At former basketball arena being transformed into an alternate care site, Governor announces state has already secured up to 4,613 additional beds to fight COVID-19 and relieve pressure on the health care delivery system

Stanislaus National Forest Announces Forest Order to Close Additional Forest Roads, Extend Seasonal Road Closures

Sonora, CA...In alignment with current federal, state, and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure health safety of its visitors, employees and local communities, the Stanislaus National Forest has extended the seasonal road closure, and closed seven additional roads along with some high-use areas effective April 5, 2020 through April 30, 2020. This closure is in addition to developed recreation sites that were closed on March 26.

Sacramento, CA...The California Department of Public Health today announced the most recent statistics on COVID-19. California now has 13,438 confirmed cases and 319 deaths. As of April 4, local health departments have reported 197 confirmed positive cases in health care workers. FDA Coordinates National Effort to Develop Blood-Related Therapies for COVID-19

Washington, DC...The U.S. Food and Drug Administration continues to play a critical role in accelerating medical countermeasures to treat and prevent COVID-19. As part of the response to this pandemic, the agency is taking the lead on a national effort to facilitate the development of, and access to, two investigational therapies derived from human blood. These are called convalescent plasma and hyperimmune globulin and are antibody-rich blood products made from blood donated by people who have recovered from the virus. The products can be administered to individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. There are some limited data to suggest that convalescent plasma and hyperimmune globulin may have benefit in the COVID-19 illness. This is why evaluation of these therapies in the context of a clinical trial and expanded access program is so important.
