President Touts Opportunity For All In Weekly Address |
Posted by: thepinetree on 04/05/2014 10:47 AM
|
Washington, DC...Remarks of President Barack Obama. Weekly Address. The White House, April 5, 2014. Hi, everybody. Today, our economy is growing and our businesses are consistently generating new jobs. But decades-long trends still threaten the middle class. While those at the top are doing better than ever, too many Americans are working harder than ever, but feel like they can’t get ahead. That’s why the budget I sent Congress earlier this year is built on the idea of opportunity for all. It will grow the middle class and shrink the deficits we’ve already cut in half since I took office.

Sheriff Gary Kuntz Statement of Candidacy 2014: Why I’m Running |
Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/02/2014 10:02 PM
|
San Andreas, CA ... When I ran for Sheriff four years ago, law enforcement in Calaveras County faced some real challenges. I believed then that my 24-year career in Calaveras County law enforcement made me the best candidate to confront those challenges, and I asked for your vote. I sincerely appreciate the trust placed in me by the voters. Back then I pledged to fight for public safety. I pledged to put emphasis back on community policing. I pledged to help get the jail project back on track, and to restore trust in the Sheriff’s office. Today, working together, we have made real progress on all these fronts. Despite a widely dispersed County population and an ongoing budget crisis, with the support of the Board of Supervisors we were able to increase the number of deputies on patrol and decrease Average Response Times. The Average Response Time for all calls is now 36 ¾ minutes, down around 4 ½ minutes, or 11%. For emergency calls, the Average Response Time is now around 19 minutes, down 1 ¾ minutes, or 8%. Average Response Times are heading in the right direction. Overall, general crime prevention activity has greatly increased. In 2010, the year before I took office, the number of car stops was 1106. In 2013 car stops were up over 300% to 3116. Checks on commercial buildings and businesses are also up significantly, going from 21 in 2010 to 495 in 2013. Overall, violent crime is down about 17% since 2011. |

The U.S. Forest Service charges $25 for a two-and-a-half-cord permit, with a maximum purchase of 10 cords per household (Permit terms and federal regulations are strictly enforced). Although the Personal Use Fuelwood season begins today, some Forest roads are not scheduled to open until April 15 or later, as weather and road conditions allow. Supervisor Merita Callaway Officially Launches Campaign With Event at Milliaire Tasting Room |
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/23/2014 10:54 PM
|
Murphys, CA...Recently Calaveras County Supervisor Merita Callaway launched her campaign for re-election with a well attended and festive event. The first of two planned open-to-everyone events, kicked off her campaign for re-election in District 3. The event in the Murphys area allowed her to network with voters in the Murphys/Douglas Flat area. The District has been enlarged via redistricting to include the communities along Hwy 4 down to the Douglas Flat area since the last election. As we were bouncing between events we missed her speech and wanting to be fair on giving the candidates an opportunity to get their messages out we conducted an interview with her in the Children's section of the Arnold Library on the Friday after the event....

President Obama's Weekly Address: Rewarding Women's Hard Work and Increasing the Minimum Wage |
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/22/2014 03:34 AM
|
Washington, DC....Hi, everybody. This week, I visited a community college in Florida, where I spoke with students about what we need to do to make sure our economy rewards the hard work of every American. More specifically, I spoke about making sure our economy rewards the hard work of women. Today, women make up about half of our workforce, and more than half of our college graduates. More women are now their families’ main breadwinner than ever before...
