Governor Newsom Issues Apology to Native Americans for State’s Historical Wrongdoings, Establishes Truth and Healing Council

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/19/2019 01:47 PM
Governor Gavin Newsom today issued an apology through executive order on behalf of California to California Native American Peoples for the many instances of violence, mistreatment and neglect inflicted upon California Native Americans throughout the state’s history. The Governor also announced the creation of a Truth and Healing Council to provide an avenue for California Native Americans to clarify the record – and provide their historical perspective – on the troubled relationship between tribes and the state. This is the first time a state has taken dual action to correct the historical record and acknowledge wrongdoing through executive order mandate and a tribally-led, consultation-informed council.

Sacramento, CA... Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s so-called Affordable Clean Energy Rule: “The deceptively named Affordable Clean Energy Rule fails to protect Americans from the rising environmental and health costs of climate change – and our children will pay the most because of dirty air, deadly heat waves, droughts and wildfires.

Presidential Message on Juneteenth, 2019

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/19/2019 10:53 PM
Washington, DC...Melania and I send our best wishes for a memorable celebration to all those commemorating Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger of the United States Army marched into Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order Number 3, declaring, “all slaves are free.” With this order, the message enshrined in President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 was brought to Texas, unshackling thousands of slaves who had remained in bondage. Six months later, the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified, abolishing slavery in the United States once and for all.

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo on Attacks in Gulf of Oman

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/14/2019 09:15 AM
Washington, DC...Good afternoon. It is the assessment of the United States Government that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the attacks that occurred in the Gulf of Oman today. This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.
