California Taking Legal Action Against Huntington Beach Over Affordable Housing

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/25/2019 11:21 PM
Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that the state is taking first-of-its-kind legal action against a city for standing in the way of affordable housing production and refusing to meet regional housing needs — local actions that harm California families’ ability to find affordable places to live and drive up housing costs for everyone. The Governor approved legal action against the City of Huntington Beach for willfully refusing to comply with state housing law, even after extensive attempts to offer partnership and support from the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The Attorney General will file suit against the city today.

Speaker Pelosi to President Trump...No SOTU Till Government Reopens!

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2019 12:27 PM
Washington, DC...Dear Mr. President: When I extended an invitation on January 3rd for you to deliver the State of the Union address, it was on the mutually agreed upon date, January 29th. At that time, there was no thought that the government would still be shut down. In my further correspondence of January 16th, I said we should work together to find a mutually agreeable date when government has re-opened and I hope that we can still do that.

President Donald J. Trump Recognizing Venezuelan National Assembly President Juan Guaido as the Interim President of Venezuela

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2019 11:42 AM
Washington, DC...Today, I am officially recognizing the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Juan Guaido, as the Interim President of Venezuela. In its role as the only legitimate branch of government duly elected by the Venezuelan people, the National Assembly invoked the country’s constitution to declare Nicolas Maduro illegitimate, and the office of the presidency therefore vacant. The people of Venezuela have courageously spoken out against Maduro and his regime and demanded freedom and the rule of law.

Thanks Nancy & See You on the 29th for State of the Union Address

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2019 10:52 AM
Washington, DC...From the President to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi....."Dear Madam Speaker: Thank you for your letter of January 3, 2019, sent to me long after the Shutdown began, inviting me to address the Nation on January 29th as to the State of the Union. As you know, I had already accepted your kind invitation, however, I then received another letter from you dated January 16, 2019, wherein you expressed concerns regarding security during the State of the Union Address due to the Shutdown. Even prior to asking, I was contacted by the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service to explain that there would be absolutely no problem regarding security with respect to the event. They have since confirmed this publicly.

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo to the World Economic Forum

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2019 12:28 PM
Davos, Switzerland.....MR BRENDE: Mr. Secretary, it is with deep appreciation that I welcome you to our annual meeting here in Davos. In the 49-year history of the forum, we have only done video links less than 10 times, always under exceptional circumstances. With the current U.S. Government shutdown, we fully understand that the cabinet has to be standby in D.C. So we are really pleased that you can be with us today to share U.S. perspective on international diplomacy, and to also challenge us to think out of the box when it comes to the theme of this annual meeting: “Globalization 4.0: Shaping A New Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

Presidential Proclamation on Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/21/2019 10:10 PM
Washington, DC...One hundred years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, the great Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., took to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and shared his vision of an America lifted from the “quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.” His extraordinary message that momentous day in August of 1963 stirred to action Americans of every race and creed, and it continues to reverberate in the hearts and minds of patriotic citizens across our great land. Today, as we pause to mark the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we recommit ourselves to the advancement of equality and justice for all Americans, and to the full realization of his worthy dream.
