On July 21st, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm the local business community is throwing a party to commemorate the opening. There will be a Fun Run/Walk, Food, Music, Prizes and much more. Bear Valley, OARS, Ironstone, Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital and many more are stepping up to support the celebration. On the morning of July 22nd will be the Official Caltrans led Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Local and State dignitaries including the Governator himself have been invited...

CCWD SERVED WITH COMPLAINT BY UTICA POWER AUTHORITY

ANGELS CAMP, CA – Calaveras County Water District was served today with the complaint in the lawsuit filed by the Utica Power Authority (UPA) on April 29, 2009. UPA held off serving the Complaint until now to allow negotiations between the agencies to proceed with the hope of reaching a settlement without moving to the next step in the litigation. Representatives from UPA and CCWD have been meeting since November 2008, with further meetings in March, April, and May 2009, and most recently on June 10, 2009, in an attempt to reach an overall agreement on the issues between the agencies....

Arnold, CA....Due to a lawsuit filed in 2006 against the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) it is a requirement that all private lakes obtain a stocking permit. Unfortunately, due to the lawsuit filed, the DFG cannot grant BLS a stocking permit for this year 2009. Therefore we will not be able to hold the Annual July 4th Fishing Derby....

Calaveras County Budget Hearing Updates...Libraries and Visitor's Bureau Retain Funding

Calaveras County, CA....While the final Calaveras County Budget is still subject to passage after labor negotiations with county employee representative bodies is complete, details of some of the items of biggest interest is starting to emerge. County libraries will remain open. The County archives will remain accessible as well. An Animal Control position will be retained. Funding for the Calaveras County Visitor's Bureau will remain intact for at least this year. We would like to thank Supervisor Gary Tofanelli for discussing these items with us...

Calaveras County, CA....On Thursday, June 25, 2009, the 2008-2009 Calaveras County Grand Jury Final Report will be available to download at the Grand Jury website at http://www.co.calaveras.ca.us/cc/Departments/GrandJury.aspx. Print copies of the Grand Jury report will be available at the Central Library in San Andreas and at each of the seven Branch Libraries located in Angels Camp, Arnold, Copperopolis, Mokelumne Hill, Murphys, Valley Springs, and West Point. San Andreas, CA...One of the proposed budget casualties is the county's funding for the Calaveras Visitors Bureau. The CVB currently receives 33% of the Transient Occupancy Tax or TOT tax that is levied on Hotel, Bed & Breakfast, and other overnight stays. One of the justifications of the TOT tax and any possible increases in the TOT tax rate is that a portion of this tax goes to increasing the visitors to the county. In 2007 according to conservative estimates over $153,000,000 in revenue within the county was...
