Sacramento, CA... Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has signed a General Order rescinding previous authorization for California National Guard operations at the U.S.-Mexico border that allowed California National Guard personnel to perform duties traditionally undertaken by the federal government there. “The Border ‘emergency’ is a manufactured crisis. And California will not be part of this political theater. Which is why I have given the National Guard a new mission. They will refocus on the real threats facing our state,” said Governor Newsom. “This is our answer to the White House: No more division, xenophobia or nativism.”

Washington, DC...Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) today introduced a Green New Deal resolution in both the Senate and House of Representatives that would create millions of good, high-wage jobs in the United States, provide unprecedented levels of prosperity and economic security for Americans, and counteract systemic injustices – all while addressing the existential challenge of climate change. Recent landmark studies such as the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report and the U.S. National Climate Assessment Fourth Report have made it clear that we need bold action to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, and we may have as few as 12 years to achieve it. The extreme weather, storms, droughts, and wildfires of recent years have made the worsening effects of climate change impossible to ignore.

Twain Harte, CA....The following is CSERC's release on their plans..."What A General Plan is the basis for all planning decisions that are made in a county. One that minimizes protection for agriculture, open space, and oak woodlands can lead over time to significant losses of those important values. That is the case with the Tuolumne County General Plan that has just been revised. For years CSERC staff and other concerned citizen activists attended one-sided county committee meetings - where Tuolumne County supervisors joined with developers and pro-use business interests to discuss ways to weaken environmental regulations and to produce a revised, pro-development General Plan for the County.

CCWD to Conduct Sewer System Smoke Testing in Copperopolis
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/28/2019 08:38 PM
Copperopolis, CA...The Calaveras County Water District will be conducting smoke testing on the portion of its sewer system along Moccasin Court in Copperopolis from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday January 31. CCWD uses smoke testing to inspect main sewer lines and laterals. Smoke testing consists of blowing smoke mixed with large volumes of air through a manhole and into a portion of sewer line. The smoke travels through the path of least resistance and becomes visible at sites that allow surface water inflow. Smoke can help identify broken manholes, illegal connections (including roof drains plumbed into the sewer system), sump pumps and yard drains, uncapped clean-outs and can even show cracked mains and laterals. CCWD crews can use this information to make repairs and reduce the amount of infiltration and inflow (I&I) entering the sewer system.
