Congressman McClintock on Opposition to H.R. 5

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/18/2019 08:00 AM
Washington, DC... Rep. McClintock delivered the following statement on the House floor in opposition to H.R. 5: Ms. Speaker: There are some fundamental principles we should all be able to agree on. Don’t hurt other people; respect the right of doctors to do no harm; respect the right of parents to protect their children. The bill before us today could have affirmed the right of every adult to declare their own gender consistent with these principles. Unfortunately, it violates these principles in the most fundamental ways.

Attorney General Becerra Leads Coalition in Brief Defending Rights of Gender Non-Binary Individuals

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/15/2019 10:59 AM
Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, and Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum today led a coalition of attorneys general in an amicus brief in Zzyym v. Pompeo to defend the rights of gender non-binary individuals. Under current federal policy, individuals who are neither male nor female (non-binary individuals) are under threat that their U.S. passport applications will be denied. In the brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, the Attorneys General assert that individuals deserve full legal recognition of their accurate gender identity on passports provided by the U.S. Department of State (Department).

Governor Gavin Newsom Launches Statewide “California for All” Health Care Tour in Sacramento

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/15/2019 09:23 AM
Sacramento, CA...In his first act as California’s 40th Governor, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a series of major, first-in-the-nation proposals to lower prescription drug and health care costs for all California families and move California closer to the goal of health care for all. Now, a week after he released his revised budget, Governor Newsom is taking his proposals on the road as part of the statewide “California for All” health care tour. Governor Newsom launched the tour today in Sacramento, and will travel across the state this week hosting events that highlight how the health care initiatives in his budget proposal would help families meet their health care challenges. Each event will focus on one of the proposals in Governor Newsom’s health care package, and the tour will host events in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

We’ve just gotten to number one not so long ago. A few months ago. This was not going to happen with somebody else in office, that I can tell you. (Applause.)

Governor Newsom Grants Executive Clemency

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/15/2019 07:41 AM
Sacramento, CA....Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has granted seven pardons.  People who have been convicted of a crime in California may apply to the Governor for a pardon.  The California Constitution gives the Governor the authority to grant clemency. A pardon does not minimize past conduct; it recognizes a person’s subsequent progress and accomplishments. A pardon does not expunge or erase the conviction.
