Arnold, CA...The Ebbetts Pass Fire District (EPFD) Board of Directors is sponsoring “Measure A,” which is a special tax measure that will fund the continued operation of fire, ambulance and paramedic services to the Upper Highway 4 Corridor. The Fire District serves community members who live in the 225-square-mile District along Highway 4 between Forest Meadows and Bear Valley. The EPFD Board of Directors put forth Measure A to address a $400,000 budget deficit the District is currently facing. If Measure A does not pass, fire, ambulance and paramedic services will have to be cut starting July 1, 2019. Eligible voters will receive ballots in the mail in early April and those ballots must be mailed to the Calaveras County Elections Office by May 7, 2019. In order to pass, Measure A must receive a two-thirds majority, meaning 66.67% of voters must vote “Yes”.

“Wildfire Preparedness Week” Declared in California

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/06/2019 06:15 PM
Sacramento, CA....Again California’s wet winter created a sizable crop of new grass growth, but don’t let the wet weather fool you as the abundant grass dries. Now is the time to act to prevent wildfires. Governor Gavin Newsom declared May 5-11 “Wildfire Preparedness Week” to urge homeowners that California Wildfires Have Changed, Together We Must Adapt. Already this year, CAL FIRE has responded to more than 470 wildfire. Californian’s need to accept fire as part of our natural landscape, understand the fire risk, and take action before a wildfire starts. We encourage residents to help safeguard their homes by using fire-safe construction materials, and to look for points of entry where embers could intrude into the home during a fire. Home and property safety preparation should include creating a defensible space by clearing vegetation 100-feet or more away from your home, and using fire resistant landscaping to help stop the spread of wildfire.

Burn Permits Required May 1st in The TCU

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/30/2019 02:22 PM
San Andreas – Wednesday, May 1st , 2019, at 8:00 AM the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will require burning permits within State Responsibility Areas of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. Burn hours will not be restricted; however, a transition to night time burning may occur as conditions change. The Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit is continuing to implement elevation based burning requirements. New burn permits will reflect Zone 1 (Below 3,500’) and Zone 2 (Above 3,500’). Previously issued burn permits are still valid, please verify your elevation and zone prior to burning. The burn information lines for Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties will state if it is a permissive burn day in Zone 1 and/or Zone 2. The goal of this program is to allow property owners at the higher elevations to utilize door yard burning to remove waste generated while creating and maintaining defensible space for a longer period of time, while minimizing the potential of escaped control debris burns at the lower elevations.
