Governor Newsom Visits Paradise Area Students & Teachers as They Head Back to School

Paridise, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom visited students in Paradise Ridge Elementary School as they begin their first full week of classes for the 2019-20 school year. The school is located where the former Paradise Intermediate campus was based, and combines two TK-6 schools, Paradise Elementary (which burned down in the Camp Fire) and Ponderosa Elementary (which was damaged in the Camp Fire). The visit comes nine months following the Camp Fire, which displaced families and students in the area, and six months after the Governor signed AB 72, which provided emergency funding to rebuild the community. The measure was the first bill Governor Newsom signed into law after being sworn into office.

McAleenan and Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar announced a final rule that finalizes regulations implementing the relevant and substantive terms of the Flores Settlement Agreement (FSA). Importantly, the rule will allow for termination of the FSA, and allow DHS and HHS to respond to significant statutory and operational changes that have occurred since the FSA has been in place, including dramatic increases in the numbers of unaccompanied children and family units crossing into the United States.

Sacramento, CA...Citing decisions to build the state’s fiscal reserves and California’s economic growth, a major credit agency has upgraded the state’s credit rating. Fitch Ratings writes that California has improved its ability to weather an economic downturn. “The state eliminated the overhang of budgetary borrowing that had accumulated through two recessions and continues to set-aside funds in the budget stabilization account,” the agency wrote.

Kane as the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Dr. Hawk Sawyer previously served as Director of BOP from 1992 – 2003.
