One of these passes is State Route 120 west of U.S. Highway 395 in Mono County, commonly known as Tioga Pass. This 13-mile stretch of highway is the highest trans-Sierra route in California. It begins at an elevation of 6,781 feet at its junction with US-395 and rises to 9,945 feet at the eastern gate of Yosemite National Park.

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo on Attacks in Gulf of Oman

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/14/2019 09:15 AM
Washington, DC...Good afternoon. It is the assessment of the United States Government that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the attacks that occurred in the Gulf of Oman today. This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.

Jon Stewart says Congress 'Should be Ashamed' Over Inaction on Helping 9/11 First Responders

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/12/2019 10:07 AM
Washington, DC....From PBS..."Jon Stewart, the former host of "The Daily Show," appeared before a House committee in Washington, D.C., to again advocate for health benefits for 9/11 first responders. At the start of his 10-minute statement, Stewart said Tuesday's hearing was an "incredible metaphor." "Behind me, a filled room of 9/11 first responders and in front of me, a nearly empty Congress." Stewart said the lack of urgency to help these responders was a "stain" on Congress. "Your indifference cost these men and women their most valuable commodity: time," he said. "It's the one thing they're running out of."

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/12/2019 10:43 AM
Sacramento, CA...From RCRC..."On Wednesday, Supervisor Kevin Cann (Mariposa) testified before the Assembly Committee on Agricultural in support of county fairgrounds, and the critical role they play in emergency situations. “In addition to their primary purpose, county fairgrounds are a critical asset in our ability to respond to emergencies,” stated Cann. “Financial stability is a menacing cloud which hangs over our rural fairgrounds’ commitment to operate safely, and provide services to our communities.”

President Trump and President Duda of the Republic of Poland in Joint Press Conference

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/12/2019 10:14 PM
Washington, DC...Thank you very much. Please. Today, Melania and I are honored to welcome President Duda and Mrs. Kornhauser-Duda of Poland back to the White House. They’ve become friends. We last hosted them in Washington, in September, and it’s wonderful to see you both again. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. Great honor. Since our last meeting, the unbreakable bonds between the United States and Poland have grown even closer. This year, as our nations mark 100 years of diplomatic relations, the U.S.-Polish alliance is stronger, by far, than ever before.

White House Meeting on Opioids Crisis

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/12/2019 10:32 PM
Washington, DC...Thank you very much. And I think what we do — this is a meeting on opioid and the tremendous effect that’s taken place over the last little period of time. And I’m very proud of it and the people working so hard on it. But I thought what I’d do is ask Secretary Wilkie to give a statement as to what just happened with respect to Choice and the VA, because I think it’s a very, very big deal.

Washington, DC...Well, thank you very much. Melania and I would like to just welcome you all to the White House, a very special place. One of the great homes and houses anywhere in the world. Call it a home or a house; it’s one of the greats. Very important to all of us. And we’re here, today, to honor the incredible friendship between the United States and Poland, and to celebrate our vibrant, thriving, and proud Polish-American community, of which many of you are (inaudible). (Applause.)
