Washington, DC... In response to the state of California and Attorney General Xavier Becerra filing a motion for a preliminary injunction and other pleadings today regarding the Central Valley Project, Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Brenda Burman issues the following statement: "At no other time in modern history has the State of California taken such ill-founded actions to directly hurt more than 25 million Californians by unnecessarily jeopardizing their water supply. Now, more than ever, it is critical that water be reliably delivered to Americans, and we are taking actions to do that."

Reclamation Updates 2020 Central Valley Project Water Allocation for Friant Division

Sacramento, CA...Today, the Bureau of Reclamation updated the water supply allocation for Friant Division Central Valley Project contracts for the 2020 contract year. The Friant Division provides water for 15,000 family farms and several cities in the Central Valley. This is the second update to the 2020 Central Valley Project water allocation for Friant Division this year. Initial allocations were made on February 25. Reclamation increased the allocation from 20% to 40% for Class 1 water supply on April 6.

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today joined a coalition of 22 attorneys general and the City of New York in a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue calling on the Trump Administration to halt efforts to move forward on a proposed rule that threatens food security for millions of Americans. The proposed rule attacks the existing process around categorical eligibility that makes it easier for states to flexibly administer the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in line with actual community needs. In the letter, the coalition highlights the devastating impact COVID-19 has had on working families and asserts that now is not the time to move forward on a rule that would take food away from families in need.

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, the California Natural Resources Agency, and the California Environmental Protection Agency, today filed a motion for a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit challenging the Trump Administration's unlawful expansion of federal water export operations in the Central Valley. Today's filing argues that the diversion of water in accordance with the Trump Administration’s revised biological opinions will cause imminent and irreparable harm to species protected under the California Endangered Species Act and the federal Endangered Species Act.

Sacramento, CA...Following yesterday’s Executive Order by Governor Gavin Newsom and a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rule change, Caltrans is allowing temporary operation of food trucks in state rest areas during the COVID-19 public health emergency to help provide access to food for highway truck drivers and motorists, and provide opportunities to food truck operators.
