San Andreas, CA...County Code Chapter 8.06: Calaveras County Code Compliance is seeking input on a proposed revision of Chapter 8.06 of the Calaveras County Code. The draft revision as well as a copy of the current ordinance may be reviewed at https://codecompliance.calaverasgov.us/. Please submit any comments, questions, or concerns including reference to the specific code section you wish to address via email to: codecompweb@co.calaveras.ca.us. California E-coli Cases: Local Prevention Measures From Amador Public Health

Sutter Creek, CA – Recent confirmed cases of illness underscore the importance of practicing prevention measures when interacting with animals at county and state fairs. Seven cases of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli developed in children after visiting the San Diego California county fair livestock barns. Two children were hospitalized and one has died. “The death of a child is always devastating,” comments Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer. “Prevention measures are important to highlight. Washing hands, keeping human food away from animal areas, and watching children closely are all steps everyone can take to remain healthy at our fair. Even healthy appearing animals can transmit germs.”

Stanislaus National Forest Recreation and Fire Units Extinguish Abandoned Campfires and Pick Up Trash

Sonora, CA...The Stanislaus National Forest provides the following information about abandoned campfires and trash left behind on forest. Throughout the 4th of July holiday week, there was 42 abandoned campfires that were found and extinguished by fire and recreation staff. These abandoned campfires, if left unfound, could easily become an out of control wildfire. It is a requirement for all forest visitors in California, to have a valid California Campfire Permit. When you obtain this permit, you receive the expectations as a forest visitor on how to properly build, maintain and extinguish your campfires. The current fine for a campfire violation on the Stanislaus National Forest is $380. We want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy our forest public lands. It only takes one abandoned campfire to become the next major wildfire in California.

Calaveras County Preparedness for PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoff)

Calaveras, CA...PG&E has announced, “If weather conditions create an environment that can promote a wildfire”, that they may shut down a portion of the electrical grid serving our community. PG&E’s has made statements, “If we see Hot and Dry weather, it may be necessary for us to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety through their Public Safety Power Shutoff Program (PSPS).

Stanislaus National Forest plans prescribed underburn for resource and public benefit on Groveland Ranger District

Groveland, CA...The Stanislaus National Forest provides the following information about planned prescribed underburns on the forest. Prescribed Fire Name / Ranger District China Ridge Understory Burn, Jordan Unit, Groveland Ranger District General and Specific Location: Located adjacent to the Groveland Ranger District office and following China Ridge south to Greeley Hill Road, approximately four miles NE of Greeley Hill. Most of the underburn is adjacent to forest roads 1S15, 1S16 and 1S29, at specific geographic location [sections 27, 33, 34, range 17E, township 1S; sections 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 23, 24 range 17E, township 2S]. Smoke may be visible from Smith Station Road, and Highway 120 with some down canyon drift smoke visible in the evening and early morning.

7.1 Magnitude Quake Hits Ridgecrest Area. More Damage Reported From This One & Earthquake Felt in Our Area.

Ridgecrest, CA....A recent 7.1 shaker was felt over a wide area and initial reports of more damage from this one over the 5.4 shaker yesterday. This is a breaking events and no detailed release yet from the USGS. We will update as it develops.

6.4 Temblor Had So-Cal & Southern Nevada Shaking This Morning

Ridgecrest, CA...The July 4th, 2019 Mw 6.4 earthquake in eastern California, southwest of Searles Valley, occurred as the result of shallow strike slip faulting in the crust of the North America plate. Focal mechanism solutions for the earthquake indicate rupture occurred on a steeply dipping fault as the result of either right lateral slip on a plane striking NW-SE, or as left lateral slip on a plane striking SW-NE. The earthquake was located approximately 150 km northeast of San Andreas Fault - the major plate boundary in the region. At this latitude, the Pacific plate is moving to the northwest with respect to the North America plate at a rate of approximately 48 mm/yr. The location of the earthquake falls within the Eastern California shear zone, a region of distributed faulting associated with motion across the Pacific:North America plate boundary, and an area of high seismic hazard. More detailed studies will be required to precisely identify the causative fault associated with this event.
