TRAFFIC ADVISORY....State Route 4 From Angels Creek to Six Mile Creek/Six Mile Road in Calaveras County

Calaveras County, CA....The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be performing intermittent 5 minute full highway closures on State Route 4 (SR-4) from Angels Creek to Six Mile Creek/Six Mile Road in Calaveras County. Work will begin on Thursday, May 1, 2008, through Friday, May 2, 2008, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Crews will be clearing boulders for the construction of the bypass.....

Burn Hours Restricted

San Andreas, CA....On Thursday, May 1, 2008, burn permits will be required within Tuolumne and Calaveras counties. Burning hours will be restricted to 7PM to 8AM on permissive burn days. Conditions are volatile in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and both counties have experienced high, gusty winds on a regular basis this year, more than in previous years. The combination of low fuel moistures and high winds generally leads to an increase of escaped debris burns. These escaped debris burns threaten lives, property and forest....

San Andreas, CA....The Calaveras County Sheriffs Association hosted a Candidates Night on Thursday eve at San Andreas Town Hall. All nine Supervisor Candidates were invited to share their platforms and share their visions for Calaveras County. They had to answer some pretty difficult questions to a crowd of approximately 100. The questions were prepared by the Sheriffs Department as John Hamilton, Moderator asked each question.....

Angels Camp, CA...We had the wonderful opportunity of chatting with District 4 Supervisor Candidate, Sarah Lunsford of Murphys. Sarah has been a longtime resident of Calaveras County and has worked in the local media and government for many years. She is running against longtime Supervisor, Tom Tryon, new candidates Lee Seaton and Ron Klass. Ms. Lunsford chose to make Calaveras County her home 11 years ago when she moved to Murphys, but she was not unfamiliar with the area. The first time she visited the area she was 13 year old. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in English Literature before going to study law for a year at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She chose to move on from her studies in law and began working as a Sales Administrator in Silicon Valley.....

Sonora, CA....Fire Safe Council President Jerry Tannhauser today announced that on Thursday, May 1, the Highway 108 FireSafe Council is inviting homeowners in the Twain Harte area, to meet and discuss fire protection, emergency preparedness, and fire prevention measures needed to protect life, property, and resources from wildland fires. The subject area includes public and private land accessed by Middle Camp, North Tuolumne, Twain Harte Drive, and Joaquin Gully Roads, and California State Highway 108.....
