CCA Says...$9,943,167.56 in Taxes and Fees Already Collected on Cannabis in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras Cannabis Alliance confirmed via Tax Collector Barbara Sullivan that as of August 1, 2017, $6,943,167.56 in Measure C Tax has been collected. These taxes were on top of the $3 million in fees collected via the Urgency Ordinance Registration in Spring/Summer 2016. According to the Internal Revenue Service, only 64% of Americans required to pay income tax do so. Calaveras Cannabis farmers came it at an impressive 81%. Also, District 4 Supervisor Dennis Mills predicted the county would not see more than $2 million in Measure C Tax revenue, nearly $5 million less that collected in the first installment.

In Ohio, I delivered a very special award to a heroic military survivor from the Pearl Harbor attack – long ago, but he is still in great shape. At the White House, we have bestowed the Medal of Valor on the brave police officers who saved so many lives after a gunman opened fire on lawmakers during a Congressional baseball practice – they were very, very brave, and they truly did save lives.

GDP Rises To 2.6% in Second Quarter

Washington, DC...Real gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 2.6 percent in the second quarter of 2017 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the first quarter, real GDP increased 1.2 percent (revised).

Congressman Steve Scalise Released from Hospital & Begins Intensive Inpatient Rehabilitation

Washington, DC...MedStar Washington Hospital Center provided the following update on the transfer of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise to an inpatient rehabilitation center on behalf of the Scalise family: "Congressman Steve Scalise has made excellent progress in his recovery from a life-threatening gunshot wound six weeks ago. Yesterday, he was discharged from MedStar Washington Hospital Center and is now beginning a period of intensive inpatient rehabilitation. He is in good spirits and is looking forward to his return to work once he completes rehabilitation. He and his family are grateful for the care he received from the trauma team as well as the other doctors, nurses, and staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The family also appreciates the outpouring of prayers and support during this time."
