Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo to the World Economic Forum

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2019 12:28 PM
Davos, Switzerland.....MR BRENDE: Mr. Secretary, it is with deep appreciation that I welcome you to our annual meeting here in Davos. In the 49-year history of the forum, we have only done video links less than 10 times, always under exceptional circumstances. With the current U.S. Government shutdown, we fully understand that the cabinet has to be standby in D.C. So we are really pleased that you can be with us today to share U.S. perspective on international diplomacy, and to also challenge us to think out of the box when it comes to the theme of this annual meeting: “Globalization 4.0: Shaping A New Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

Presidential Proclamation on Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/21/2019 10:10 PM
Washington, DC...One hundred years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, the great Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., took to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and shared his vision of an America lifted from the “quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.” His extraordinary message that momentous day in August of 1963 stirred to action Americans of every race and creed, and it continues to reverberate in the hearts and minds of patriotic citizens across our great land. Today, as we pause to mark the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we recommit ourselves to the advancement of equality and justice for all Americans, and to the full realization of his worthy dream.

President Trump at a Naturalization Ceremony

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/20/2019 03:15 PM
Washington, DC...I might begin my saying that, to the best of our knowledge — it goes back a long way — this is the first such swearing-in that we’ve ever had in the great Oval Office. So that’s a pretty big honor right there. That’s pretty good. Now, they may find something back 100 years ago, I don’t know. But we looked and we couldn’t find it. So — Please, sit down. Please.

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/19/2019 01:02 PM
Washington, DC...Just a short time ago, I had the honor of presiding over the swearing-in of five new great American citizens. It was a beautiful ceremony and a moving reminder of our nation’s proud history of welcoming legal immigrants from all over the world into our national family.

President Donald J. Trump to Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/17/2019 11:53 AM
Washington, DC...Dear Madame Speaker: Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.

Bat Infestation Measures to be Installed Near SR-49/108 at Woods Creek Bridge

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/17/2019 06:06 PM
Sonora, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on northbound and southbound State Route 49/108 at the Woods Creek Bridge. This will help prepare the bridge for a project that will apply a polyester-concrete overlay this summer, creating a smooth ride and a smooth transition from the roadway to the bridge. The Woods Creek Bridge is one mile south of Jamestown and just north of Bell Mooney Road. Work is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, 2019, and Wednesday, January 23, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Traffic on the bridge will be limited to one lane and motorists should expect 15 minute delays. Drivers are being urged to take alternate routes whenever possible during these two days.
