Calaveras and Alpine Counties, CA....The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association has announced that the second annual “Scenic Celebration” event highlighting the scenic wonders of the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway will take place on Saturday, September 13th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to experience a number of enriching and enjoyable activities at eight different venues while traveling the scenic byway between Arnold and Markleeville......

Dorrington, CA.....If you haven’t taken a ride “up the hill” in awhile it’s about time that you did. A short 2½ miles past the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, a short 6 miles past Arnold and 16 miles from Murphys is the town of Dorrington. Dorrington was named for Rebekah Dorrington Gardner who was married to John Gardner. Their beloved granddaughter was Reba Blood, which Mt. Reba was named after. The Dorrington Hotel was also their home and was a stop on the Big Trees Carson Valley Road and was also a depot for the stockmen and a summer resort. ....

It was another of the ongoing Economic Development meetings that have been spearheaded by the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce. San Andreas, CA...After a round of public meetings, including a study session with the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, and much public dialogue we can report the following to you. We confirmed that the Building Department changed the way they “interpret” our current Fire and Life Safety Code mid year 2007. They were strongly challenged for taking this new position and we did have some limited success in softening the impact. Where the mitigation since 1992 was to pave the driveway, that is no longer the rule of the land....

Sheriff's Deputy Arrests Juveniles for String of Burglaries

Dorrington, CA....On Monday evening, March 31, 2008, The Calaveras County Sheriffs Offce arrested 2 juveniles for burglary and possession of stolen property in the Dorrington area. Deputies believe the pair who are brothers, are responsible for an estimated 16 residential burglaries in the area. Sheriffs Deputy Chris Dorsey was conducting extra patrol in the area of Chum ash Circle in response to a recent rash of burglaries in the area.
