Winter Storm Watch Starting Wednesday Afternoon into Thursday

Arnold, CA....The National Weather Service is forecasting a Winter Storm Watch starting Wednesday afternoon..."Winter storm will bring mountain snow late Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. A storm system will approach northern California on Wednesday afternoon, bringing with it accumulating snowfall into Thursday afternoon. Snow levels start out 6000 to 7000 feet falling to 4500 to 5500 feet Thursday morning. The heaviest snow is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning with the majority of the accumulation above 5500 feet but some light accumulation is possible down to 4500 feet. If you have mountain travel plans be prepared for winter driving conditions, chain controls, and travel delays.

Florene Richards Anderson 1924-2016

Dorrington, CA... Florene Anderson was born 6 Oct 1924 to Floyd and Irene Richards in Manteca, California. Her parents combined their names Floyd and Irene to get her name, Florene. She graduated from Manteca High School, remaining a longtime member of the Manteca Historical Society. Florene attended the College of the Pacific in Stockton and the University of Nevada in Reno where she studied geology and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. A Calaveras County resident over 65 years she and her husband, Leonard Anderson, owned and operated the Dorrington Hotel, The Pine Gables Motel and KLM Builders before retiring to her parent’s apple ranch in Hathaway Pines. Florene went to be with the Lord on 10 Dec 2016. She was laid to rest at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.

The SPARROW Program of Tuolumne County is Becoming Available in Calaveras

The SPARROW Program has been in Tuolumne County for about a year. It is just now being made available to Calaveras County seniors. Catholic Charities and UCSF have partnered up and received a 1.8 million dollar grant from the NIH to study different interventions for treating depression in older adults living in rural areas...

Calaveras County Veteran Services is currently recruiting two part time or full time Veteran AmeriCorps volunteer stipend positions as part of a Strength to Serve program. These positions start in October, 2014 through September 2015. This is an opportunity for Veterans in our community to serve for one year in a volunteer position that supports other fellow Veterans, along with their families in Calaveras County. Responsibilities will include providing peer counseling, transportation and resourcing to isolated Veterans...
