Frogtown, USA.....Eight bright talented young women will be competing for the title of 2011 Miss Calaveras and a $1,000 scholarship. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship pageant is an eight week program that culminates in the stage competition at the Calaveras County Fair. The Program offers more than $2,700 in scholarship awards for contestants. Starting this month, the eight contestants will begin a rigorous rehearsal schedule. They will be schooled in interview skills, etiquette, public speaking and talent. The competition comprises of four areas of focus, personal interview, health and fitness, ....

Calaveras County Fair Junior Fair Board Gets a Jump on the Frog Jump! |

Frogtown, USA.....This year's Junior Fair Board got their start for the annual Frog Jump as they met today to be briefed on their duties, interview with Lacey Neufeld, Marketing Assistant for the Frog jump, and tour the grounds to get a feel for what they're up to this May......
We got a picture of those who were able to make the meeting: Melayna Campbell, Brittany Cox, Brady Dubois, Savannah Duncan, Meghan Fought, Rachel Geiszler, Rosie Giannini, Nicole Gleason, Justine Gonzalez, Meghan Holidy, Kristy Jacobson, Taylor Mossa, Kayla Nosek, Sean Purcell, Justice Rasmussen, Brendan Raymundo, Megann Roggow, and Taylor Smahlik.
Not pictured here, but serving on the Junior Fair Board for 2011 are: Adrienne Alberts, Brittni Barrett, Aspyn Butzler, Taylor Campbell, Jaclyn Cunningham, Mara Estoesta, Ashley Gilmore, Rosie Howard, Clay Cruse, Hayley Litzenberg, Taylor McTeer, Paulina Mejia, Eli Clark Thom, Austin Weatherby, and Alissa LeeAnn White.

Dorothea Cooper Award New This Year at the Fair! |

Frogtown, USA.....From 1948-1966 Dorothea Cooper was involved in building feature exhibit booths for the Copperopolis Community Center. These booths featured products from that area. One year she was gathering grain for her booth and was bit by a rattle snake. On her way to the hospital she dropped the grain off with a neighbor so the booth at the Fair would have grain.....

Frogtown, USA.....The Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee is planning fun inter-active activities for children to participate in on Heritage Days, Thursday May 19 and Friday May 20. Children age twelve and under receive free admission. Heritage Days will host special Pirate Fun for all our buckaneers. .....

Frogtown USA.....Do you want free Fair admission? Do you want to participate in a traditional Fair competition? Do you want to show off your culinary skills? Enter the Daily Baking contest at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee, May 19-22, Pirates of the Carrots and Beans. Each day of the Jubilee a different item is featured cookies, cakes, pies and brownies. There will be special awards for competitors who create their items using carrots or beans. All baked items must be prepared at home and brought to the fair the day of the competition. A recipe should accompany all entries.....

This exhibit unveils the history of the first modern fair and shares the traditions of our farms and ranchers from the past to present. ......

2 lbs. ground chuck
1/2 lb. ground pork
2 Tbls. flour
1 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 eggs
2 C half-and-half
1 1/2 quarts beef stock
unsalted butter, for frying.....

Frogtown, USA.....There are 3000 state, county, and regional fairs in the United States. The first Calaveras County Fair in our archives was held in 1893.
