Frogtown, USA...The Mark Twain Hall was filled last night for the 2012 Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jump Jubilee Kick Off Awards Dinner. With the Capital Frog Jump yesterday and the Kick Off Dinner last night the 2012 Fair Season is now in high gear. Fair CEO Laurie Gianinni was given high marks for steering the fair through some very tricky times. Numerous other people were given awards as well for their contributions. The Calaveras County Fair is a special event who's history literally goes back to the Gold Rush. Every year Calavereas County gets is share of the national spotlight. Frogtown will be ready. The grounds are manicured and volunteers are working like mad to make sure this year's Fair and Frog Jump are the best yet....

SACRAMENTO – Senator Ted Gaines (R-Rocklin) today hosted the 38th Annual Capitol Frog Jump at the State Capitol. Elected officials, legislative staffers and media participated to see who could make their frog jump the farthest. “It was an honor to sponsor the 38th Annual Capitol Frog Jump in my second year representing Calaveras County in the 1st Senate District,” said Gaines. “The event is a staple in the Capitol community and a great way to get the word out about the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee taking place at the end of this month.”...

Frogtown, CA....The 2012 Wine Competition took place at the Fairgrounds last Friday, April 27 and the highlights of the winners are as follows: Best of Calaveras: La Folia 2011 Muscat Canelli, Angels Camp, Mineral 2009 Merlot, Angels Camp. Frogtown, USA...The last couple of weeks preparations for the 2012 Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jumping Jubilee have shifted into high gear. Community members and staff are scurrying about the grounds getting ready for the time every year when Angels Camp is on the national stage. Last week we stopped by and saw Ron Dwelley, Buck King and RJ Dwelley hard at work putting in new tanks for the Frogs to rest their legs in between heats. They told me that even tiny massage tables will be provided this year to give this years crop of Frogletes the best chance to jump past Rosie The Ribbitter's long standing World Record....

Angels Camp, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. Fourteen Applicants to Vie for Jr. Miss Calaveras County: The Junior Miss Calaveras competition is open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras county. The contestants are judged on beauty, personality, pleasantness and ticket sales by a panel of judges. The winner will be announced during the Junior Frog jump and she will be presented at the Calaveras County Fair during the Miss Calaveras announcements the next week....

Angels Camp, CA...As we post this the Zielke family is no doubt on their way back from taping Mark Twain Elementary Eighth Grader Michael Zielke's appearance on the revived 1990 game show “Figure It Out” Nickelodeon has ordered 40 new episodes to bring the show back after a decade long hiatus. Angels Camp, CA...The 2012 Calaveras Chamber's Home and Garden Show is going on through tomorrow afternoon. We stopped by today and we were impressed. The hall is filled to overflowing with vendors and crowds and vendors seemed happy. One exhibitor said he already had more leads only partially through day one than he had all of last year. So if you haven't make it out to Frogtown yet make sure you go tomorrow to check out everything from Tractors to Solar. Chamber Executive Director and event organizer Diane Gray was pleased. She said the well received Bridal Faire at Ironstone and the Home and Garden Show at Frogtown bode well for our local economy as it really seems on the up-tick....

One of the hidden benefits is the opportunity to meet your neighbor, make new friends and be a part of our great community. There are many things that individuals can do to be a part of the Fair. The Jubilee needs volunteers to receive exhibits and help display entries prior to Opening Day. Volunteers are also needed to staff the exhibits program as greeters in each of the buildings....
