FROG FORECAST: Lofty leaps likely if Mother Nature cooperates.

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 05/10/2010 08:39 AM
Frogtown, CA....Competitors at this weekend’s Jumping Frog Jubilee in Angels Camp are hoping for warm weather. It was a hot Sunday afternoon back in 1986 when Lee Guidici of Santa Clara set the current World’s Record with his frog Rosie the Ribiter who jumped 21 feet, five and ¾ inches in three leaps. This year the Bozo Frog Team from Sacramento will try for an unprecedented fourth win in a row. The family team has won the title for past three years, each time barely falling short of the World’s Record....

Frogtown, CA...."While out at Frogtown today covering the Alpaca Competition, I didn't realize that the dog and pygmy goat judging was also going on. I of course had to get photos, so I ran back and forth to get them. Here are photos of the beginning of the dog judging and the beginning of the pygmy judging. At least I ran off that cookie I ate!"

Frogtown, CA.....With the fairgrounds preparing for the onslaught of people and animals next week the tractors were rolling, the construction crews were banging, and the sawdust was flying, all adding to the anticipation and the stress of showing an animal. But I tell you, these kids were up to the challenge. The first entrant was Lindsey Michaels of Copper Hills 4-H showing Chico, a five year old male alpaca. This was Lindsay’s 3rd year showing, which put her in the advanced category. Linsdey placed first in showmanship. Next up was Levi Rollings, also of Copper Hills 4-H, showing Dufus, a five year old male. This was Levi’s first year in 4-H. He placed first in showmanship for novice.....

The narrator details a story he heard in a tavern. It is about a frog, Dan’l Webster, who could out jump any other frog, and a man, Jim Smiley, who was the “curiousest man...

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/03/2010 12:08 AM
Angels Camp, Calif. ….For 20 years now, in over two thousand performances from Leningrad University in Russia to C-Span, McAvoy Layne has survived, and in fact been preeminent, in preserving the wit and wisdom of "The Wild Humorist of the Pacific Slope" -- Mark Twain. Says McAvoy, "It's like being a Monday through Friday preacher, whose sermon, though not reverently pious, is fervently American.".....
