10/27/2018 - Artist Reception for Staria Stine on October 27th at nd&x,
Murphys, CA...The nd&x is so pleased to be hosting another fresh innovative solo show featuring the works of super talented local artist Staria Stine. Staria is driven by her curiosity and passion for the natural environment and her interest in our complex relationship with Nature both presently, as well as over the course of human history is evident in her latest endeavor. In this body of work Staria is focusing on the topic of genetically modified organics.

(GMOs) and how they have been incorporated into our contemporary applications. Genetica modification is a forced process, and perhaps one that the natural world might inevitably reject, potentially leading us down the road to monoculture systems and that of collapse. Therefore, this raises the question of our ethical responsibilities, pointing to our future societal costs. Working closely with plants and the complex information systems found within their structures, this body of work calls attention to the precise, delicate and highly-informed design of edible plants and other organics.

Please come to the opening to meet Staria and experience the beautiful, colorful, thought provoking applications all together in the same space for maximum impact of this gorgeous body of work.

This is our 5th show of 2018. Please don’t miss it. Wine & nibbles provided.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers and of course...Peace,

Jill & Linda

09/22/2018 - The 2018 Ironstone Concours d'Elegance, Rolling Art, History & Automotive Culture
Murphys, CA...We love Concours weekend in Murphys. If you can head on out to see Ironstone holding the event it was designed for. We have the awards ceremony from last year embedded below to get you in the mood as well. The Ironstone Concours d’Elegance is an antique and classic car show held each September at Ironstone Vineyards near Murphys, California. Some 300+ antique and classic cars participate. The event also features vintage trailers, housecars, antique trucks and motorcycles, race cars and wooden boats. Honored guests from the old-car hobby and the auto industry regularly participate.

Featured vehicle marques vary from year to year—such names as Packard, Duesenberg, Pierce-Arrow, BMW, Corvette, Studebaker, Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Special classes spotlight early Fords, streamlined cars, sports cars, exotics, race cars, coachbuilt luxury marques plus significant unrestored and original automobiles.

The Ironstone Concours d'Elegance weekend begins with a Friday evening Cars & Stars wine tasting, dinner and auction. The concours itself takes place on Saturday, climaxed by an awards ceremony. Class winners drive onto the Ironstone Amphitheatre stage to receive their trophies. Among regular participants are Reno’s National Auto Museum, the California Automotive Museum in Sacramento, the Blackhawk Museum in Dublin and San Francisco’s Academy of Art University auto collection.

Proceeds from the Ironstone Concours d’Elegance benefit Central and Northern California youth in agriculture, notably Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H. In addition, the non-profit Ironstone Foundation has helped fund the California State FFA headquarters in Galt CAlifornia; scholarships in partnership with the California State Fair; and the Calaveras County Fair scholarship program.

09/22/2018 - Local Health Care District Saves Lives with New "Stay Vertical Calaveras" Program
San Andreas, CA...Did you know that 1 in 4 Americans aged 65+ falls every year? According to the National Council on Aging, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. Falls are costly—in dollars and in quality of life. However, falling is not an inevitable part of aging. Through a gentle exercise program to increase strength and balance, a person can substantially reduce their falling, and save their life.

In recognition of National Falls Prevention Day, the Mark Twain Health Care District is hosting at the Murphys Senior Center (65 Mitchler Ave) the KICK-OFF of a new program - Stay Vertical Calaveras on Saturday, September 22 from 10 am – 12 noon, highlighting the multiple opportunities throughout Calaveras County to join a free exercise class designed to keep you up and active. Exercise demonstrations and refreshments will be available. The classes will focus on Tai Chi and Strength Training for low impact exercise to help with flexibility, balance and stability for fall prevention. Other benefits achieved from these classes are enhanced mental capacity, help with arthritis pain, and promote deep breathing.

Stay Vertical Calaveras is a new program sponsored by Mark Twain Health Care District, Your Health, Our Mission - since 1946. “Through community collaboration, we serve as the stewards of a community health system that ensures our residents have the dignity of access to care that provides high quality, professional and compassionate health care.” For more information, visit www.mthcd.org.

We are looking for more location sites to make these classes available to all the senior residents of Calaveras County. If you have space available to host a class, please contact Steve Shetzline for more information at stayverticalcalaveras@gmail.com or (209) 915-2450.

09/15/2018 - Cajun Harvest Party at Irish Vineyards
Vallecito, CA...Calaveras goes Cajun! Bring your appetites and dance shoes to Irish Vineyards to enjoy an evening of food and dance under the stars! Contact Irish Vineyards for details.

Today at 6:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Irish Family Vineyards
2849 Highway 4, Vallecito, California 95251

Here in Vallecito dreams have always been big… so has the Irish influence.

First to hit the area were the Murphy boys back in 1849. John and Daniel came looking for gold and found it

One hundred and fifty years later we discovered it here too. I am Russell Irish of Irish Vineyards. Our gold comes in liquid form, and unlike those 19th century mining Murphys we are delighted to share our riches with everyone.

A renegade spirit pulses through our award winning wines.

Making wine since before he was old enough to drink it Russell’s dedication is discernible through every sip. Never losing the integrity of the wine he always pushes the limits of viticulture. With both estate grown grapes and those grown to our specifications he has created such mouth welcoming joys as Alacant Bouchet and Chenin Blanc.

We also guarantee you will taste much more.

Whatever the varietals from our Petite Sirah to the Pog Mo Thoin our sense of fun and family permeates in each bottle.

For us there is no snob appeal in our wines. Instead we think of them as elixirs to the good life.

The wines from Irish Vineyards add a fluid celebration to any occasion.

Come share the wealth with us! Join us to experience the finest in Calaveras Wines. Here at Irish Vineyards, we hand-craft outstanding and award-winning wines; an assortment of reds and whites.
