Murphys, CA....Were you one of the millions of people who watched American Idol last night? If you were you saw Ironstone's last addition to their summer concert series. Just added and confirmed for Friday, August 28th. Jason Mraz, with special guest TBA. Tickets will go on sale on June 8th for this concert, through, TicketMaster. The seating and pricing for this concert are completely different than any of our shows. More details to follow. He will be added to Ironstone's website within the next few days.

Murphys, CA...Frogtown may be the center of the universe for Frogs but Murphys is the center for Hogs and Harley's on Frog Jump weekend. Every year what is normally a quaint, wine tasting mecca is transformed into our local version of Sturgis, Laughlin, or Daytona. Main Street was packed footpeg to footpeg from one end of town to the other. The Murphys Hotel garnered the most attention with their live music and other activities...

Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Community Band is kicking off its series of Monday evening rehearsals in the Murphys Community Park gazebo with an informal Memorial Day concert of patriotic music on Monday, May 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. Individuals and families are encouraged to pack a picnic supper and enjoy it alongside the cooling creek while listing to good music.

How the country’s drastic economic upheaval is affecting Murphys and the rest of Calaveras County will be the topic of the Murphy Community Clubs next Town Hall Meeting to be held Tuesday, May 19, 7 p.m. in the Native Daughters Hall, 268 Main St., Murphys. Robert C. Lawton, the County Administrative Officer, will be on hand to describe how the financial crisis is impacting the county’s ability to provide basic services and what might be expected as the federal stimulus package money attempts to improve conditions. Murphys, CA...."Tonight's First Friday in the Park has been cancelled (or at least postponed) due to the cold and rainy weather. Thanks for helping us to get the word out."

The highly successful Fridays in the Park, a four-month series of family entertainment in the tranquil setting of Murphys Community Park, will kick off the 2009 season with James Faifua and the Jukes providing blues and jazz music on Friday, June 5, beginning at 5:30 p.m. "This is the third year the Murphys Community Club has offered these programs and they have proved to be very popular,” states Charlie Creighton, the MCC board member who is this year’s chairman for the series. “Families enjoy gathering....

The Passing of My Dad ~By Rod Weathers

Muphys, CA...Local Contractor Rod Weathers sent this to us on the passing of his father Alex Weathers last Tuesday. We were going to try and rewrite it but it is better as Rod wrote it. "John, I just wanted to let you know my dad Alex Weathers passed away late Tuesday night 5/12. My dad lived in Arnold from 1976 when he retired from the pool service business, through 1997. My Dad was a very active member of the Arnold Rotary and designed and helped build the bleachers at Courtright/Emerson ballpark. My Dad bought his first home/cabin from Ken Demuse (his own personal and model chalet home), the developer of Blue Lake Springs on the 18th green of Sequoia Woods Country Club. He bought the house across the street on the first tee of the golf course and lived there until '97. My Dad built numerous homes in Blue Lake Springs, and who I got my start and learned the construction trade from....

Murphys, CA...Former electrical engineer Robert Ray Toombs died of natural causes Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at his home in Murphys. He was 80.A native of Berkeley, Mr. Toombs was born April 19, 1929. He lived in Murphys for 24 years, and was an electrical engineer for PG&E for 36 years. He was a member of the Ophir Bear Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 33 in Murphys and Disabled American Veterans. He was a ham radio operator.....
