O.A.R.S. Releases 2014 Pre-Season Rafting Forecast

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/09/2014 12:44 PM
Angels Camp, CA....The worldwide leader in whitewater rafting with river trips throughout the western U.S., O.A.R.S., announces which river systems will feature the best boatable flows, including early-season big water runs, for the 2014 season. O.A.R.S.’ 2014 whitewater rafting forecast follows this week’s above-average SNOTEL snowpack reports in the Rocky Mountains from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. Based on regional data from specific river drainage basins, O.A.R.S. anticipates an exciting and lengthy season, with early season high-water trips, on the Salmon and Snake Rivers in Idaho, the Yampa River and Green River through the Gates of Lodore in Dinosaur National Monument, as well as on the Colorado River through Cataract Canyon in Canyonlands National Park. In Idaho, with current snowpack in the Salmon River drainage at 119 percent of average and the Hells Canyon drainage at 123 percent of average, Curt Chang, O.A.R.S. Idaho Regional Manager says peak flows are anticipated in late May. “High flow for the Middle Fork Salmon is predicted at 6.5 feet, and 69,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) for the Main Salmon,” he said. “[The Snake River through] Hells Canyon is dam controlled so that will not likely get higher than 40,000 cfs.”

A Few Tips From The CSLB to Protect Yourself From Bad Contractors.

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/09/2014 10:32 AM
Calaveras County, CA...We have all either heard of, know someone or have ourselves been a victim of a bad contractor. There are, unfortunely, people out there who just want to take your money without doing any work...shocking, I know! It's such a big problem, that the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) conducts sting operations with local police to try and catch these "contractors". There is even a new T.V. show on Spike called Catch a Contractor. The show focuses on families who have been burned by someone promising work, but fail to follow through and were left with unfinished, and sometimes unsafe, living conditions. Like this family...

Bret Harte Swam at Jackson Community Pool this past Friday in a

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/06/2014 08:25 PM
In our first true cold weather meet of the year, the Bret Harte swimmers were still able to swim well and defeat both Amador and Argonaut teams. By mid meet the scores got very close and the Bret Harte Team Captains had to huddle their team together and fire up the swimmers to finish strong and go on to win the meet. Standout swims included junior Josh Brady swimming personal bests in all 4 of his events, swimming freesytle in all three relays and the 100 yard freestyle, proving in his rookie year that he is now one of the team's top freestylers. Sophomore Katie Johnson swam the longest freestyle event for the team, the 500 yard freestyle and dropped 18 seconds off her previous time, confirming her spot as one of the top distance freestylers for the Bret Harte girls team. Another first year swimmer and one to watch is freshman Tyler Carlson; as he has moved his way into the position of third ranked butterflier for the boys team, placing and scoring points in the 100 yard butterfly...
