Bear Valley, CA...Today Mostly cloudy. At lower elevations...scattered rain showers. At higher elevations...scattered rain and snow showers in the morning...then numerous rain and snow showers in the afternoon. Highs 38 to 52 higher elevations...48 to 58 lower elevations. Little or no snow accumulation. Snow level 6000 feet. Prevailing south winds up to 15 mph...except southwest 20 to 30 mph over ridges. Tonight Mostly cloudy. At lower elevations...a chance of rain showers in the evening...then a slight chance of rain showers after midnight. At higher elevations...rain and snow showers likely in the evening...then a slight chance of rain and snow showers after midnight. Colder. Lows 26 to 40 higher elevations... 36 to 46 lower elevations. Little or no snow accumulation. Snow level 7500 feet. Prevailing south winds up to 10 mph. Over ridges...prevailing southwest winds 20 to 35 mph decreasing to 15 to 25 mph after midnight...

Great American Smokeout Coming November 20, 2014

San Andreas, CA...In recognition of National Rural Health Day and the Great American Smoke out on Thursday, November 20th, Calaveras County Public Health Services encourages smokers to put their health first and commit to quitting tobacco for good. Rural areas in California have high rates of tobacco use. The adult smoking rate for Calaveras County was recently estimated at 18.2%, compared to the state rate of 13.8%. In 2012, the smoking rate for youth in grades 9-12 in Calaveras County was 10%. Nearly 9 out of 10 adult smokers start smoking by age 18...

Murphys, CA...Richard “Dick” Penrod of Murphys died Saturday, Nov. 8,, 2014. He was 73. Mr. Penrod was born in Oxnard. He attended Fillmore schools and graduated from Fillmore High School with the class of 1959. Whenever he could, he would attend the annual alumni banquets and class reunions to stay connected with his childhood friends and classmates. He held the high school pole vault record for many years and made his school and county proud when the Black Angus he raised as a member of the Future Farmers of America club earned National Grand Champion....

Suspension Lifted, Restricted Burning Hours

San Andreas, CA....Following recent rain, CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit has lifted the suspension of burning within State Responsibility Area (SRA) in Calaveras, Tuolumne, and the eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus that are within the SRA effective Monday, November 17, 2014. While cooler temperatures have helped to diminish the threat of wildfire, residents are asked to use caution while conducting debris burns. Burn permits are required for all burning projects and must be completed between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. Residents must follow burning requirements and maintain control of their fire at all times. Property owners may be held liable if a fire escapes their control and/or burns the property of a neighbor....

Emu & Goat Are Still On The Lamb In Hathaway Pines

Hathaway Pines, CA...We thought they had made their way home but apparently not... "To all the ones that have been following the Emu and goat story. The freeman family we r the owners the emu is called Cruton and the goat is Mimi they are best friends. Some how they opened the gate, while we were out. I'm really sorry about that and glad they didn't cause an accident. CHP I believe had them, but they got away. My husband looked all last night and could NOT find them. He is back out looking today if anyone has any info pls call 795 6860 thanks in advance" Tiffany Houle posted a picture of the pair on FB yesterday along Hwy 4.
