Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride 2013 a Pedaling Success for Feeney Park |

With ideal weather conditions and verdant hills, 248 riders took part in the sixth annual Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride on Saturday, April 20. The ride began at Feeney Park in the historic gold rush town of Murphys and offered 50K and 100K routes. From as far away as the state of Washington, and the country of Sweden, the cyclist ranged in age from 17 to 81. At the barbecue following the ride, participants went out of their way to express their appreciation for the beautiful countryside, the friendly atmosphere and the delicious food. Many said they would return next April for the seventh annual ride...

Second Annual Off The Beaten Path Walk/Run For Autism Awareness |

Murphys, CA...Prizes will be awarded in twelve categories for the fastest times when the second annual Off the Beaten Path – Walk/Run for Autism Awareness is held Saturday, April 27 under the auspices of Mind Matters, the Murphys based clinic that treats autism and related disorders. Male and female runners in the five mile event will compete in six age groups: 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 35, 36 to 50, 51 to 65, and over 65. Murphys resident Brian Dusquenel, a retired CHP officer and metal sculptor, is creating the specially designed awards...

American Cancer Society Volunteers Paint Our Towns Purple Relay Ahead of April 27th Celebration |

Angels Camp, CA...Towns are becoming awash in purple, thanks to efforts by volunteers from the American Cancer Society’s annual “Relay For Life,” a community campout against cancer. Throughout Calaveras County, towns, schools, and businesses are “painting our towns purple” to celebrate cancer survivorship and bring attention to the yearly event, which will be held on April 27th at Bret Harte High School....

Husband and Wife Arrested for Assault with a Firearm |

Vallecito, CA...On April 20, 2013 at approx. 12:23 am, Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on the 10 block of Rufe Lane in Vallecito for a report of a verbal altercation. Calaveras Sheriff’s Dispatch Center also received several 911 calls reporting gun shots from the same area. Upon arrival the deputies contacted the victims who stated that the alleged suspects, Steven Scharf (25) and Jana Scharf (24), both from Douglas Flat, had left the scene in a vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Angels Camp Police Department searched the immediate area but were unable locate the Arrestees...

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Home & Garden Show is this weekend at Frogtown. It will be filled with a wide variety of local businesses just waiting to help you with your next project. We stopped by the Tuolumne County Home and Garden Show on April 13th to see how their show was progressing. The crowds were large and happy and Calaveras County's businesses were some of the largest exhibitors with Middleton's, Pinnells Airserve, Carpet One, Calaveras Lumber and more on hand and selling. So don't miss the Calaveras Show April 27 & 28th this weekend at Frogtown!!!!

Murphys Man Suffers Injuries after Being Run Over By Tractor |

| Murphys, CA...A 75 year old Murphys man was working with his Kubota tractor. The driver attempted to exit his tractor without properly placing it in "park" and engaging the "Emergency brake". As the driver exited the tractor the wheel caught hold of his left leg dragging him to the ground. The left wheel then rolled over the driver's legs, stomach and chest before coming to a stop. The driver was able to get to his feet and walk to his porch where he notified his wife of the accident. His wife then called 911 for emergency assistance... |
