"B" Street Theatre Company Pleases the "Dickens" Out of Michelson Students

Murphys, CA...Michelson students and staff recently welcomed "B" Street Theatre Company from Sacramento for it's 13 year! Thanks to the AME Parent's Club, the students were treated to an incredible theatrical experience in their own gymnasium. "What The Dickens" was the theme for the show which included several small Charles Dickens snippets by 4 very talented actors, including "Mikey" who has been coming to Murphys with the company since the first year. Some of the older students were quick to greet him like an old friend! What makes this show so unique is that the company writes their own original material with a modern and humorous twist, while still maintaining their education goal of teaching and introducing history and literature into their performances...

On Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays in November and December, bring a bag of non-perishable food to the Murphys Library and exchange for a bag of our gently used books. Daniel Brian Darby 1934 - 2013

Angels Camp, CA...Daniel Brian Darby passed away November 9, 2013 in Angels Camp, California, with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 56+ years, Eleanor, and their four children, Daniel 'Brian' Darby Jr. (Jeannae), Denise Volpetti (Dave), Mike Darby (Linda) and Rob Darby (Veronica), eight grandsons, Kyle Robinson and Andrew Volpetti of Oakhurst, Evan Robinson (Tiffany) of Clovis, Sean Darby (Kelly), Josiah and Joseph Darby of Angels Camp, and Rasmus and Lucas Darby of Sweden. One great-granddaughter, Mystery Darby of Angels Camp. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many other extended family, most of whom still reside in Calaveras County....

Murphys, CA...An opportunity for area residents to enjoy an authentic African dinner while supporting a worthy cause will be offered in the Native Sons Hall, 389 Main St., in Murphys on Friday, November 15th from 6 to 8:30 p.m.. Proceeds from the dinner will help the Abandoned Children and Youth Association (ACYA) that runs an orphanage in Uganda that houses and cares for 30 children who have lost their parents to AIDS...

Dancing with the Sierra Stars Wows the Crowd with Glitz and Glammer. MTMC Foundation Contributes $250,000 Towards Angels Camp Medical Center

Murphys, CA....A crowd of over 170 people gathered in the Music Room of Ironstone Vineyards Saturday night to see three couples compete for the coveted Mirror Ball with a theme of Broadway. Twinkling stars, ostrich feathers and lighted wall graphics dazzled the guests as they enjoyed the evening’s entertainment. In addition to the show the hosts, Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation, celebrated their 30th Anniversary by presenting a check for $250,000 to the Mark Twain Medical Center to begin the design phase of the Angels Camp Family Medical Center...


Above are many additional photos. We didn't get a chance to video the competition but the dances were great. Below is a demo dance video from Lauren Nicole and Edwin Bobrycki. If this was their demo...you can just imagine what their performance was like. The competition was won by Debbie Peterson & Mike Butow.

Amanda “Mandy” DeSmidt Named November 2013 Mentor of the Month

Calaveras County, CA...The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is pleased to honor Murphys resident Amanda “Mandy” DeSmidt as November 2013 Mentor of the Month. Mandy has been matched with her 11-year-old mentee, Gissel Moran, for a year and a half. “It’s volunteers like Mandy who make the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program so effective,” said Colleen Dolan, Coordinator of Mentoring Programs at the Calaveras County Office of Education. “She has an exceptionally kind heart, and despite her busy schedule, it’s clear that her friendship with Gissel takes priority.”
