Murphys Volunteer Library Rubber Duck Races Coming Up on July 19th!

Murphys, CA....The annual duck races to support the Murphys Volunteer Library will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2008 as part of Murphys Homecoming in Murphys Park. This year, there will be five races: the kids’ races at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.; the adults’ races at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Kids’ ducks can be rented for $1.00 each and adults’ ducks for $5.00 each. Tickets will be on sale during weekends in July at various locations on Main Street in Murphys, at Sierra Hills Market, and at the Murphys Library from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Great prizes will be awarded the winners of each of the races.....

Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Back in Action Tuesday Morning

San Andreas, CA....Our Board of Supervisors will be meeting Tuesday morning for their weekly meeting at 9am. Some of the agenda items being discussed will be a Minute Order accepting bid and authorizing purchase of a 2008 Ford for Public Works; A Minute Order authorizing the CDA to issue a refund in the amount of $10,220 to Randy and Sammye Lacy for outside consulting fees that are no longer needed; Lake Tulloch is back on the agenda for discussion and possible action use of residential dwelling units for transient occupancy (short-term rentals). Sierra Century Rides Again! ~By "ThePineTree Pedaler", Brett Loring

Calaveras County, CA....We would like to welcome one of our newest Columnists, "ThePineTree Pedaler", Brett Loring. Brett road the 100 mile Sierra Century today and here is what he has to say about his Grand Adventure....."The roads of Calaveras County for the second year in a row were home – for at least 10 hours - to the Sacramento Wheelmen's coveted biking event, The Sierra Century. A total of 607 road bikers braved the warm June 7 sun and the bumpy back roads and steep grades like Highway 26 to West Point, Jesus Maria into Mountain Ranch, and Dogtown en route back to the Ironstone Vineyard finish line. Three hundred seventy five of the riders participated in the 100-kilometer route, while the rest rode the nearly 100-mile course. Many riders on the 100-mile course finished in under 8 hours......

On June 5th at approximately 7:30pm, two men were stabbed to death at 612 Stanislaus Avenue in Angels Camp. Any information that can be provided as to the above subjects whereabouts, known associates or locations he frequents, is requested. Please provide any information to the Angels Camp Police Department......

Avery Middle School Graduation 2008

Avery, CA...Last night Avery Middle School sent it's newly minted graduates on to the next level of their education. We have video of most of the ceremony from last night. In out accompanying photos we have shots of the entire program and a list of graduates as well. What impressed us the most was the speeches. All of the graduates who spoke did a wonderful job! Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Meeting Video with Summary for June 3, 2008

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors kicked off their June Meetings with a session that lasted just over 3 hours. Mountain Lions even made the show. In addition to the normal items that attracted attention one seemingly minor item took up a large portion of the discussion time. The county was looking at trying to save about $17,000 in general fund money by eliminating 1/2 of a position. From the discussions it seems that this may be $17,000 that needs to be cut elsewhere. San Andreas, CA...One of the items on the Calaveras County Council of Governments Meeting agenda was the unveiling and launching of a new promotional tool to help market the new Foothill Ride Share program that helps match people with similar commuting needs. The CCOG's Tyler Summerset handled the unveiling and also said they are already getting calls on the program because of their new Toyota.
