Karen O'Neill's challenge - and passion - is exploring new ways of expressing traditional subjects. Karen starts most of her paintings with a spontaneous abstract background on very wet paper. Driving Under the Influence Causes Solo Vehicle Rollover on Sunday Morning

Murphys, CA... CA...Driving under the influence caused a solo vehicle rollover on Sunday May 3rd at Murphys Grade Road and French Gulch Road. Two of the passengers in the vehicle were ejected as they were not wearing seat belts. Two Angels Camp residents experienced moderate injuries, one was taken to Modesto Memorial and the other Mark Twain St. Josephs. The driver was arrested at the scene for DUI. Murphys, CA....One of Murphys historic buildings that once served as the entrance to an underground tunnel used to secretly move whiskey to the Murphys Hotel during Prohibition will once again have a spicy existence when a new business opens off Main Street on Saturday, May 30th. The Spice Tin, owned and operated by Patty and Jan Schulz, located at 457 N. Algiers St., will offer a wide range of exotic spices in addition to fine art and world treasures. The shop is behind the Sierra Nevada Adventure Co. at the corner of Main St. and Algiers.....

Murphys, CA...Charlene Vine attended the Murphys Community Club meeting this week to discuss some of the issues for wheelchair access that improvements to the Hwy 4-Big Trees Rd. intersection had been causing. Talk about quick response...developer Jack Kautz and a representative from Caltrans met Charlene at the offending spot in the curb and it was removed! Very nice to see such quick action! This provides a temporary fix so she and others can roll right through....

Murphys, CA....Longtime Murphys Resident, Susan Rae Palmquist, age 53, passed away on April 25th, 2009, at her residence in Murphys. She was a Real Estate Broker for 20 years. She was a member of The Calaveras Association of Realtors. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, crocheting and snow skiing. She is survived by her mother, Gladys Canant of Capitola, CA: A brother, Bill Shevlin of Mesa, AZ; and sisters Penni Taketa of Lihue, HI, June Vehn of Clovis, CA and Patti Rice of Morgan Hill, CA. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday May 4th at 3pm at Angels Memorial Chapel in Angels Camp.....

Murphys, CA...We are currently at the Murphys Community Club meeting where they are discussing the Big Trees Road intersection. There are Representatives Dinah Bortner and Nelson Magsayo from Caltrans, Rober Packinger Calaveras County Public Works and Supervisor Tryon speaking along with members of the community. This is a multi-layered project. Mr. Packinger from Public Works department spoke first and said that from the county's perspective the intersection is only a few weeks from completion....
